As Elizabeth Schoenfeld once wrote, “with a stroke of his pen, California governor Ronald Reagan wiped out the moral basis for marriage in America.” Five years after passage of the California law, no-fault divorce statutes were enacted in forty-five states. New York became the last state to pass a no-fault law in 2010.Reagan later admitted that signing the no-fault divorce bill was one of the biggest mistakes of his political life.


From 1960 to 1980, the divorce rate more than doubled — from 9.2 divorces per 1,000 married women to 22.6 divorces per 1,000 married women. This meant that while less than 20% of couples who married in 1950 ended up divorced, about 50% of couples who married in 1970 did. And approximately half of the children born to married parents in the 1970s saw their parents part, compared to only about 11% of those born in the 1950s.

Reagan was a piss poor president. His actions had massive consequences, intended or unintended, that we are still dealing with to this day.

No. California =/= USA and laws passed in California do not dictate the laws passed in the other 49 states.

You are wrong. Reagan was a very good president. He had a hostile congress for all 8 years in office. The democRATs controlled the House all 8 years, and the Senate for 2. The media was hostile for all 8 years.
