Seriously though, I was training to do a half marathon before the pandemic, but then I messed up my back. I was hoping to come in around 2hrs.

that was my goal too -- i wanted to come in sub-2 hours. i didn't have a watch on or anything, so it was impossible to gauge my speed / pace. when i crossed the finish i assumed i had a slow time, but my gf was like "you did it! you did 1hr50min", which really surprised me.

good luck with the back brother (ded fkn Srs)

Nice man. Doing one later this fall and training for it. Don’t mind running but doing it for 8 miles+ is quite the chore

I did half of the Marine Core Marathon many years back and averaged 9:30 per min pace @a muscular 203 pounds and keeping pace with the gf.
I was satisfied, since our longest training run was a 4 hour run in the heat and humidity of the DC summer and we set that as a goal.
You did great and as the weather cools you will get even faster, good luck!

kudos to you for being able to do it but it's just not my thing. not pleasurable and i'd be worried about the long term wear and tear on the joints. knee and hip replacements for Boomers is a big business. running was really big in the 70s and 80s and 90s. maybe there's no connection - maybe there is.

Not a fan of distance running because it eats at gains and doesn’t even give you that trim a look compared to HIIT / sprints

you should do it man -- it felt great. i think the reason it felt great was that psychologically, just running a few miles a few months ago felt like a lot (ded fkn Srs) good luck man

yeah man... distance running is hard when you have a lot of mass (ded fkn Srs)

im a twinkish 170lbs so its not that hard on my joints. when i was 210 a few years back, i remember running just two or three miles took a big toll on my knees
