15 reps

on week three of 15-20 rep sets. ive done all kinds of low rep high weight stuff over the years as well as 8 rep bro splits. The last few weeks ive tried 15 rep min, every set basically to failure. the pumps are unreal. i feel like ive gained an inch on every body part. highly recommend if you already have a good base..

thats all.

Thanks.

how many sets of each lift are you doing?

high reps are a b!tch, always have to drop the weight on the bar wayyyy more than I think.
PRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1

I've been doing this lately, haven't felt motivated to absolutely crush the heavy weights. It's good to mix it up.

Try doing sets of 15-20 with really slow, controlled movements. Spoiler: cut the weight in half, it's fkn tough

High rep sets work great for me. I don't get much gain in size from anything below 3X12 reps. I'll gain strength, but fuk all for size. I always pick a weight that will be at failure on my last reps, or drop the weight back.

Like John$Galt said, slow controlled reps. The burn on the last few reps is crazy.

3 to 5 just depends on the lift. I think i was in a rut on the 8-10 rep stuff. I am using close to the same weight now that i was. I must have been half assing it and not realized.

I do incline benchpress with dumbbells in the high rep range . I find the pump is unbelievable, and at 60 , I was finding it hard to get that pumped up feeling anymore. Doing 6-8 reps I don’t get those feels

I will add something I've done in sprints for many years that has been great: pyramiding down. It's really taxing so you can't just do this all the time, but after you're warmed up, start with your heaviest weight, go to failure. drop the weight, go to failure, etc. reps should be right around the same number as you get tired. you can do this for one exercise and just do like 20 sets as you go down in weight. at the end you'll be shaking trying to press the pink dumbbells.

I found out the exact same thing 15 reps was the absolute sweet spot for muscle growth but I barely even lifted above 5 reps I always loved lifting heavy even triples.

Agreed. I've always done a mixture of rep ranges, but hardly ever as high as 15. Due to lockdown, I was forced to use higher reps because I didn't have enough heavy weights at home. Now I'm addicted to 5x15. Not sure if I will go back to lower reps when the gyms open back up, especially because I'm getting older and 15 is great on the joints.

I'm gonna try this out and keep dropping the weight down. Usually I might drop 10 pounds or so and bang out the last set.

been doing a lot of sets of first set of 3-4, second 8-12, and third 15+, and it's enjoyable. I will give all sets 15+ a try.

Pretty much what I’m doing . Got seriously sick in May 2019 , was bedridden for a month and have never fully recovered.
For some reason I’m more aware of getting injured from heavy weight , so not I just push things with reps .
I’m not a teenager anymore either lol

I watched the special features in the DVD of Universal Soldier - The Return (1999) starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

And I admire what he's been doing.

I do both, heavier low-reps and lighter high-reps, because I love variations.

However in general, we, martial artists, believe in high-reps and he's a great example of success, a man with a highly functional body.

And a dangerous one too.

BTW brother, good post and good luck!
