Das it boyo!

I have a work happy hour tonight at one of my leaders houses. I'm really hoping there's no sweets there. Weekdays are usually easy for me but being around it makes it difficult.

Hope everyone else is doing well so far!

Yep same for me the first few days of withdrawal were horrible. It didn’t help that the day before I stopped, I went to the beach and drunk a whole bottle of jack, and about 7 trulys mixed with gin (I have a problem)

Woke up this morning at 6, took some preworkout, rode my bike 30 min to gym, had a crazy workout, then rode home as the sun was rising. Ate breakfast and have been doing work on my computer for the last 4 hours. I feel amazing mentally and physically today. Hope it stays like this but I know there’s peaks and dips.

I know some people mentioned sobriety apps, but there are other generic habit tracker apps that can work good also. Especially if you might want to go longer than a month.

I use one on Android called Loop Habit Tracker. Watch those days stack up boyo

If your aren’t diabetic you can go ahead and enjoy sweets on occasion. Treat yourself. You can stay sober still. I would if I could get away with it and keep my figure! For me I will have an Atkins bar here and there. Mostly sugar I eat would be in small amounts of fruit - natures candy.

If I indulge In 3+ pieces of fudge or pies etc it all goes to my ass. So the keep my backside from looking like two pieces of chewed bubblegum lol I limit sweets... I’m even as said careful about fruit cause the sugar content in some of them.

Not to get you off topic guide.

Most October’s in my life including since I joined bb.com (which I did because I lifted heavy, but while drinking every Friday and Saturday night) I hadn’t been sober. Now this is my second October where I am going to not have a single drop.

I'll just put this here in case someone finds it helpful. I quit alcohol for good earlier this year, and had quit for a full year a few years back.

That year I took off was miserable. It was basically waiting for the year to pass so I could drink again.

This time it was easy because I simply made the decision I'm never going to drink again. I had a good reason to quit, and I think most alcoholics need a good reason related to their lives, but just wanted to put this here for anyone it might motivate to just quit the poison for good instead of just one month.

Oh, I'm not doing sober October for alcohol but for sweets. I don't drink often enough to warrant saying I'll take a month off.

Stay strong. Alcohol can be tricky. It's like there are two parts of your brain fighting, and the logic part has a hard time winning over the compulsive part.

You'll never wake up thinking, "damn, I wish I drank last night."

True as hell. It's funny, you never regret not having drank more. But you do regret drinking too much.

In general if you're at a crossroads asking yourself "should I drink or nah?" The default answer should always be no. This can then change your mindset into building confidence for drinking only when it's pre-planned.

Kind of a long story.

Every fight I've had with my girl was due to me being a dumb fuk and getting too drunk. And 99% of the embarrassments in my life (there are many) have been the result of alcohol. It was funny and fine up to a couple years ago, but we have a toddler and another on the way. So it's not so funny to her when I get drunk and belligerent and leave her to take care of everything. I did that on a vacation and kind of ruined it, said it wouldn't happen again, then got blacked out for no reason just a few weeks later. The next day I was just like, "What in the actual fuk is wrong with me?" There was literally no reason to get that drunk and retarded. I just kept drinking until I got sloppy and just had no thought about it while it was happening. She didn't say it, but I knew she was thinking that she'd have to leave me if I kept it up. So I had the deep realization that alcohol could cost me my family, which is the most important thing in the world to me, and also that I simply cannot handle any alcohol whatsoever any longer. I have the bug, so to speak. Somewhere in the past I went from drinking with friends when I went out and not needing it or wanting it otherwise to always wanting to drink. It became kind of a compulsion. Anyway it was a deep realization that made quitting easy, and I couldn't be happier with the decision or how I feel. I just wish I had done it many years ago.

Alcoholic me in 20 years (if he even lived that much longer) vs sober me in 20 years are two completely different people, the latter very obviously being the better. Accomplishing my goals and living a fulfilled life went from unlikely to an inevitability.

The juice is no longer worth the squeeze, if it ever even was.

I know personally how tough it is to quit the booze if you don't have a solid reason like I did. But for those of you struggling with alcohol, just keep it in mind, realize you have a problem, and that you're gonna have to deal with it at some point or it's going to ruin your life and kill you. Ideally you'd just quit forever right now because you could avoid the future pain it will cause you, and it 100% guaranteed will continue to cause you lots of pain. But I'm not sure it's possible for alcoholics to quit without having that really painful external experience or realization as an impetus.

100% this

I had to hit rock bottom like that myself by losing everything before I finally just wanted to stop drinking. I wanted to for health purposes too.

Good for you man, respect.

I wasn't quite on that path but I saw myself coming up to the turn. I wasn't getting piss drunk but I'd have several every night and it was just enough for me to get snappy with my wife for no reason, like a damn teenager. So we'd fight over nothing, talk it through the next day, then the same thing would happen again a few days later. I got worried about our marriage, to be honest. The timing happened to line up with sober October by coincidence so I jumped on board and stopped drinking - haven't had any conflict with her in over a week. I resumed briefly while at a bachelor party this past weekend but in the morning I realized that I wouldn't been happier if I hadn't had anything to drink. So now quitting is fairly easy. I'm also reading Allen Carr, highly recommend it to you brahs.

lol You don't have to give up sweets. I'm glad I don't really get trick or treaters because I don't know if I could have candy here and not eat it.

Thanks I appreciate it. Ty for not holding me to my nice gesture. If I get a sweet tooth i normally reach into my Atkins candy drawer. Peanut butter squares, caramel nut clusters and I never EVER run out of the peppermint pattieslike Rob Lowe I have embraced a low carb/low sugar life.

Seriously good luck on cutting your sweets cravings. I would hand out low carb candy but it’s so pricey compared to just getting a big ass bag of snickers bites or whatever is on sale.

We get a lot. Some parents bring their kids to my area just to trick or treat.
For me I love food more than I do alcohol anymore. By now even the smell of red wine kind of makes me gag. Which I don’t mind.

That's great on the low carb/low sugar lifestyle! I'm hoping doing this month sweet free cuts down on my cravings. Also great about not craving the alcohol as much!

Normally, due to drinking, I'd turn down snacky foods and yummy things, since I know I downed hundreds, maybe even 1k+ Calories in alcohol perhaps the day before, or whatever.

Now we're pushing day 7 of this thing and I've had chips and queso from one of my favorite restaurants for the first time in months. And it was freakin' good.

Lack of alcohol = Junk food is more justifiable

Really, really tough being shredded and drinking daily or even a few times a week. Alcohol really makes you retain fat and water. My understanding is that your body prioritizes getting the poison out so lots more of the calories you ingest go to fat (bro science explanation but I think true more or less).
