i can easily finish a whole book in 1 sitting these days. It's just a muscle you have to train. And it's worth it.

I did it for a few weeks, but it sucks. You don't get time to fully think/digest the book you've read before going straight in to another. 1 per month is much better imo

Page has 300 words, 1 page per minute avg book has 250 pages = need to do 30-45 min reading a day and an hour one day on the weekend. You shift time from scrolling through fb before bed or stop watching Netflix an episode early and read instead. That is the easiest way to do it. Replace one hobby with another in part or full.

Once the habit is built you will find it enjoyable like most productive habits and feel drawn to it.

You will find you are reading a book a week without really trying.

This is what people refer to as building a "mental framework" where ideas you have been exposed to are added to as you learn. It isn't like learning a new topic every time you pick up a book. It is a refresher with a few new ideas hopefully.

Once you've read the top 5 best sellers in a non-fiction area you basically have covered most you will learn. Every subsequent book will just be that repackaged with a few minor updates or authors flair on an idea.

This makes it easier to read as well.

You probably read multiple books worth of text on the misc each week. It isn't mentally taxing because you kinda know what will be said and what to expect and hopefully will read a few interesting things. Exact same.

When you first joined the misc you had to work out how the page worked, who specific posters were and what their deal is, you had to develop background knowledge for assumed areas...etc now it is a piece of piss.
that makes sense, repped

It depends on the book. I read 'The boy in the striped pyjamas' in one day, but it took me several weeks to get through 'Atlas Shrugged' as it is so damn long and quite frankly, difficult to stay interested in.

If it is a novel in the 400 pages range, I like to be done within the week unless I am very busy.

It does sound like you are a pretty seasoned reader. It's true. Books are easier once you have the background knowledge. But that's not the full story though. I read a lot of textbooks and it doesn't always translate to other disciplines to make things easier to read.

If you are ready for fun it might be easier to comprehend the book since the author uses concepts and ideas you are already familiar with but reading textbooks to learn is a lot more difficult, unless of you have background knowledge in it already, which most dont.

But that's not all. Certain books that are not text books are still really hard to read, even if you have a background knowledge. Its the concepts and supporting details that can often go in and out of your mind if you do not read slowly and methodically. So reading fast is not a good thing unless you are quickly skimming to see the outline. I read much much slower now. And it has helped with comprehension tremendously.

The more you read the faster/easier it is. Your attention span probably also needs work - not an insult just a reality of modern life. Mine has definitely improved as a result of reading.

Reading 10% of your book every day is a book every 10 days, or 36.5 books a year. When you sit down look at how many pages your book is - if it's 250 pages your 10% goal is 25 pages. This should take less than half an hour a day, more like 15 minutes for me now.

I also listen to fiction audiobooks instead of podcasts while I work out, cut the grass, clean the house etc.

Loved goosebumps. Srs.

The Haunted School was my favorite

As far as books go, I'm not the best, but I was able to get to a point where I read books in like 3-4 days, but school is getting in the way of that since I'm already reading some kind of material on a daily basis. Once I finish though, I'm right back to it.

One thing that I am doing is an audible subscription and listening to a book when I run. On runs where I'm on cruise control for anywhere from 35 - 80 minutes, I can knock out audiobooks pretty quickly listening at 1.5x speed.

That’s it though. Finding books that peak your interest is the way a person should start.

Atlas Shrugged is a tough read but I can read other finance books with no issue.

Define “book”? A fukkin std pamphlet doesnt count.

I consider a book anything above 120k words. I read a chapter a day before bed, which is about 3000-5000 words. Cant imagine rushing through if I want to absorb anything unless its non fiction.

Sometimes I can read a book that fast, other times it takes longer. Depends on what is going on and how busy I am. I always always read when I get in bed before I sleep, some nights longer than others depending on how tired I am. If I do my cardio on treadmill I also read during that. I need to start getting off the computer more and reading my books instead of surfing the internet.
