You are arguing social constructionism; “The system made me this way, therefore my wrongdoings are ok and completely normal”. If a boy raised by Muslims grows up to be a tyrant that beheads people, he’s moral because he was born in to that situation? This is basically the same argument Marx used. It’s along the same lines that a victim is justified in becoming a tyrant.
Morals and ethics are universal. We are all responsible for our own decisions, regardless of where you are from. A tyrant is still a tyrant and a moral person is still a moral person. True Heroism is someone with the strength to interrupt the status quo. To stand up against evil and unethical behavior when no one else will.
Sympathizing and excusing people that do bad and evil things is not a virtue, nor justifiable. Perhaps this is why y’all need to start reading the Bible more. your atheism is really showing with this rationalizing. you have been indoctrinated to believe this and don’t even realize it Because you have no moral compass. The Bible is a moral compass with the greatest good possible. Without a moral compass, you are destined to have no principles. This is part of the teachings of Hayek and Mises.

Romans 11:19–20,
9For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse.
Martin Luther was a drunk and he was the most famous Reformer.

Words in a text are not in themselves evidence of the events described within. This goes without saying, but for some reason it has to be repeated constantly in these religion threads. If we are talking about the Bible, the few times it does seem to touch on natural history, it's typically not correct- for example in various chapters of Genesis.
A quick, and eloquent summary of how hydrogen atoms just following physical law led to life on earth including humans, given billions of years time (video is dated by a few decades, but still essentially the modern understanding).
The actual story of "creation"- the 20/21st century scientific understanding of how our world and how we came about- is imo much grander than anything the ancient writers could have ever dreamt as they came up with their myths. The modern story isnt just myth of course, rather it is based in evidence.

So who made your god OP? Did he just make himself? Religion doesn’t explain anything. Just lol at jesusfreaks and towelheads subscribing to Bronze Age mythology as if it could possibly have any logical basis whatsoever.
Religion is just one giant cope and power grab taking advantage of stupid people’s fear of death. The whole enterprise exists to manipulate and profit off of idiots like you and the masses of morons who will believe anything that is shoved down their throat long enough

some points are interesting, but i shall sit out of this discussion because both sides are entrenched in their position and are just here to try and convert others (mostly atheists trolling and refusing to see some of the facts, and that atheism makes no sense vs being an agnostic and admitting you don't have 100% of the facts.)
i'm 100% certain the world will be a better place if everyone truly tries to be a christian. I myself try my best to be one, but it's super tough.

Everyone is religious in a sense, it’s just that the dominant religion right now is science which is nihilistic by nature. It really is. Whenever I go down deep the rabbit hole on this, it gets nihilistic as fk.
Science provides facts but not values and therefore there is no value hierarchy to live by.
And people look at this issue only at a surface level thinking they’re good because they’re secular and good. Newsflash, you don’t exist by yourself, everything you are and that you do is influenced by your friends, family, societal standards, laws etc. And at its core, we have Judea-Christian foundation as a society and it influences everything that we are, whether we acknowledge it or not.
Even when religion is wiped out, we won’t know the consequences of that until hundreds of years later when all remnants of those beliefs/values passed down has eventually disappeared. You are seeing some of it now with the increased degeneracy though.
You would be hard-pressed to find any society that ever existed that was secular for a significant amount of time.
People confuse the purpose of religion to be an answer for questions they don’t know and therefore we don’t need it now cos science. That’s how religion is sold but it’s actual function is to create a universal value system within the society. If you don’t have a universal value system, then the individual gets to create their own value system and if you have 1 million people, all with their own value systems, well, you know what happens when even just 2 value systems collide (muslims-Christians).
And value systems have always been told via stories. Always. That’s where mythology and the hero’s journey comes from. There’s a pattern to stories which evolve with society, but it’s not by accident, the stories are part of our evolution, much like our biological evolution, the stories are part of our psychological evolution which happened to be the best for our survival.
A story being propagated that promoted Valhalla and killing everyone would be dangerous today when we can wipe out humanity with a click of a button.
Edit: and to people who claim that they don’t read the bible therefore they’re not religious or that they are not influenced by religion. That’s like saying that you haven’t read the laws therefore you are not law-abiding. When religious values derived from those stories have been implemented into law, when society’s morals have largely been influenced by those stories, when everyone you know holds you to a moral standard which was enforced to them by society which again, is rooted in religious stories. You are religious as fk.
Unless you seriously think that it’s not ok to steal or murder because… you came up with that moral value all on your own??? I wonder why the vikings thought it was ok to rape, pillage and murder..

Our society is based on Greco-Roman laws and government. We owe much more to the Roman republic than we do a bunch of peasants loafing around in the desert. The Romans were also secular and famously inclusive in allowing foreign religions.
Roman Catholics aren't even really monotheistic. They substituted saints for pagan symbolism. Which is why you have patronage for various groups of people. My patron Saint being St. Barbara.
"Saint Barbara is often portrayed with miniature chains and a tower. As one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, Barbara continues to be a popular saint in modern times, perhaps best known as the patron saint of armourers, artillerymen, military engineers, miners and others who work with explosives because of her legend's association with lightning, and also of mathematicians. A 15th-century French version of her story credits her with thirteen miracles, many of which reflect the security she offered that her devotees would not die before getting to make confession and receiving extreme unction."
Sounds pretty pagan to me. She's basically Christian Thor.
