People say chit like "all intensive purposes" and "could care less" which are improper uses of other documented colloquialisms all the time.

The point is that the phrase is clearly not rooted in "anti-Black racism" as is being asserted by the people calling him a racist.

Back to the situation at hand, he is describing the African American's lips as "Michelin tires."
He's mocking the size and shape of the lips of African Americans which has become a racist stereotype.

Based Thomas, when Gruden says he said Michelin Tires to described rubber lips to infer that the African American described is lying... it only makes sense that the MUCH MORE likely explanation is that its just a reference to the stereotypical caricatures of African American lips that have long been demonstrated by White America.

If we were to go with your claim, then rubber lips was INCORRECTLY used by Gruden to describe lying when urban dictionary says its mispronunciation. So now we are allowed to make up whatever Gruden could have meant? If we are making up meanings, then Dearest Thomas, I didn't mean to suggest you were retarded earlier, I incorrectly used the word to actually mean your intelligence is abnormal in a good way and you are actually a genius. And Gruden wasn't saying Michelin tires to say he was a big liar, rather Gruden was saying how the African American's words are as reliable as Michelin tires.

And don't forget that Gruden was saying that this gentleman had beautifully textured lips, just like the tread on one of dem Michelin Tires.

Gruden was referring to the caricatures of negative stereotypical features of African American people that have long been mocked by White American society.

That's not true. Mick Jagger has been referred to as "rubber lips" for decades because of his large, full lips. You can find news clippings and magazine articles that use the term in reference to Jagger that predate the UbanDictionary citation. The expression is definitely about the size of the person's lips, but is isn't inherently racist.

That's not to say it can't be racially charged. An article about british actor Martin Clunes (another white man) used the term rubber lips to describe, again, his prominent lips.

I've never heard the term myself and I don't even know if it's American in origin.
