The ending of the series "House" pissed me off (Spoilers)
I liked the show but I hate endings where the moral of the story is to live life to the fullest because one day you might die, as illustrated by the song playing at the end. If I had 5 months to live, I would absolutely have no money to go and do whatever I wanted. I would have to work until the cancer got so strong I could no longer do it, get medical disability and live a GMiscer lifestyle until I finally perished.

Level 0: Have no money and be a workcel till you're on medical leave / disability till death.
Level 1: Get enough money to fund a crazy awesome final 5 months. Includes taking withdrawal penalties as needed on your 401(k)/IRA/retirement for emergency situations.
Level 2: Get enough money to where you can fund a crazy awesome final 5 months without the need of going into retirement, just in case a miracle happens and your life continues with a longer lifespan.
Level 3: Get enough money to where your typical every day ideal lifestyle is already equivalent NOW to what you'd do with your remaining 5 months on earth.

Then work harder and save more money just enough so you can live your last five months to the fullest.
How hard it could be?
Ordinary people raise kids and support their families for life. Do you?

BTW, I love HOUSE MD.

One of the better series in modern times
Lots was imperfect. I do not know if I saw the final season.
I agree live like you're dying is the most trite idea in the world.
Prudence matters. Just enjoy yourself, and optimize recreation outside of work.
