Famed Art Institute Of Chicago Fires All Docents, Primarily White Women

The famed Art Institute of Chicago fired all of its volunteer docents in early September, and allegedly they did so because the group of predominantly white, retired women was not “diverse” and “inclusive” enough.

The Art Institute of Chicago 2021-2022 Docent Council fired back on September 13 in a letter delineating the numerous contributions the docents had made over the years. They wrote:

We believe we were dismissed (1) because the museum’s perspective is that the current docent corps’ demographics do not meet the need of the strategic plan (2) the museum concluded that reengineering the docent program was a step towards achieving the museum’s important goal of creating a culture of diversity and inclusion.

The editorial board of The Chicago Tribune condemned the move to fire the docents on September 27, citing what they called the “weaselly letter” from Veronica Stein, the Woman’s Board executive director of learning and engagement that was sent to the museum’s roughly150 volunteer docents. The Tribune continued, “Once you cut through the blather, the letter basically said the museum had looked critically at its corps of docents, a group dominated by mostly (but not entirely) white, retired women with some time to spare, and found them wanting as a demographic.”

When I used to live in Ukraine, docent used to refer to somebody esteemed but not quite on a professor level. I have never heard this word used in English before, but from the article I can gather that it was a bunch of older retired white ladies who volunteered at the museum as curators.

Look around, just about every charitable/volunteer organization or even far left groups like Peta/green peace etc only exist because of white woman. You remove them and good night sweet Karen.

Good luck with your climate change goals of 2021 while removing white woman.

PS, I support Stein as I can almost guarantee all those white woman supported mass diversity... at those other white peoples expense..

I agree that anti-American interests, both foreign and domestic, use racism to push the nation towards strife and ultimately balkanization. I am in less agreement with it getting ugly. I think as long as the business world (private) remains as competitive as it is now, the companies hiring based on equality of opportunity will easily surpass the companies fluffing the tiny SJW groups. In non-profit organisations you can pander but when it comes to financial performance, the strongest will survive.

Otherwise I am of the opinion that they are getting what they asked for and they are on their own. White, black, yellow, red, purple, blue, whatever you are, if you're today's modern liberal democrat you're on your own in that bucket of crabs you jumped into.

Any different? Yes. I don't think anyone is under the impression that Republicans are miracle workers or are willing to use their power like dems are.

It would at least signal to dems they need to pump their breaks and it would communicate to society that the current crop of dem values are not the only show in town.

Any change would be a good change.
