Had Sliding Genioplasty Surgery (pics)

Since a kid, I’ve had an overbite coupled with retrogenia (recessed chin), which basically made my chin look non existent. Always hated it, had the option as teenager to break both jaws and have a bone graft, but wasn’t keen on the 2-3 year turn around. 2 month ago I came across this procedure and travelled down to London to see a consultant plastic surgeon. Went ahead with the surgery, thought I’d share it. The procedure involved using a saw to separate my chin from my lower jaw, moving my chin forward 10mm and fitting it in place with a special genioplasty plate.

Before surgery:

Image mock up prediction:

Immediately after surgery:

3 weeks after surgery:

I’m unlikely to see the final result for anywhere between 2-6 months due to the swelling I still have. As the procedure involves cutting around the mental nerves, my chin is completely numb. This could be permanent but is unlikely.

I don't understand why you'd want to saw off your chin and place a plate implant. You could have just gotten a chin implant which would have been much safer and had instantaneous result.

SRS, I've never heard of a Genioplasty procedure and I'm curious what advantages it has over a chin implant.

Everything I post is satire.

Real bone is always better, an implant I think has a chance to become infected. Either way I think this is a very safe procedure

chin implants are an easier procedure and reversible.

plus chin implants can be wrapped around the entire chin width not just extending the front

The advantage of a chin implant is that you can choose the shape of the implant, and also how much protrusion you want. With a Genioplasty, they saw off the chin and move it forward, which actually puts a maximum limit on how far forward it can be moved, and also you'd still be stuck with the same chin shape.

here's an animation of a genioplasty.

SRS, not trolling, I'd like to know the advantage of a genioplasty over a chin implant.

Aside from the chin numbness, I still have the incision wound on the inside of my mouth which hasn’t healed yet. In addition I’ve only just gone onto solid foods again (was on a liquid/purée only diet for 2 weeks), so when I chew or do other things like yawn or shout, it feels tight due to the scar tissue, but it’s gradually getting better.

Thankyou. Anaesthesia was fine, I was knocked out pretty quick and woke up 2 hours after surgery was complete. I stayed in a room for another hour and then was discharged, didn’t have any lasting effects. What exactly are you wanting to have done to your lower jaw?

I actually explored this option first. The reason this came about was that I have a friend who has a clinic doing fillers and the like. I saw a post on his business instagram page showing chin augmentation fillers. So I was going to go with this option, however it only last 12 months and I wanted something more permanent. I then researched online and saw the implant alternative. I found a highly regarded plastic surgeon specialising in these chin implants and arranged for a consultation. When I went there, within the first minute he said he couldn’t do it. The reason being that my chin recession was so severe, that an implant wouldn’t have made any difference and that the only way to rectify it would be to have surgery. So in terms of advantages, there isn’t any per say, it’s just that implants are only viable for people with mild chin recession.

I’ll reiterate, this wasn’t to pull girls, I don’t have an issue with that, haven't used Tinder in years.

I would call you a ****ort for getting jaw surgery but I actually had to have corrective surgery on my upper jaw due to orthodontic issues and it massively improved my facial aesthetics so it would be pretty fukking hypocritical. Hope it heals up soon brah I know those swollen cheek feels.

I mean, you still could tbf, doesn’t sound like you got it done for aesthetic/cosmetic reasons.
