Need tradie advice

I'm thinking of leaving my job but I'm not sure if I'm being a bitch or not. I'm new to construction so I don't have much confidence in my intuition here. The foreman on the job I'm on is an ex-coke dealer and former prison bitch and every time I tell him someone is treating me like a bitch he tells me to stop being a bitch because construction is like prison. Now he himself is a prisoner so this obviously follows him around. But is what he's telling me what I'm stuck with or should I leave this prison bitch job and go somewhere with more sensible people?

Get a desk job, shorty.

You aren't cut out for that life.

i've worked in construction

most sites are full of junkies and convicts especially the large ones. 100 workers on site, guaranteed to have some dodgy fuks

you might get lucky working with a small crew but you could be looking for a while

i always lol at guys who complain about being stuck in an office with some karen, until you've worked a chitty construction job you don't know what chit work is

my advice to anyone who ever asks me about thinking of going into construction is don't

This is how I know you're a low test hom.o.

I'm unique in the sense that I worked a corporate job once I graduated college, and now I work in the trades for that sole reason.

Sitting at a desk all day next to Karen, getting yelled at for saying words like retard, is about 100000000000000 times worse than working in the trades.

Working in an office is legitimately most emasculating thing a man can subject himself to.

Plus the work is mind numbing, and all the people you work with have the personality of a guy who reads Stephen Hawking's books.

At least working in the trades you get to work around people that are interesting. Yea, a lot of them are fuked up for sure, but a lot of them are funny as fuk as well.

What state and what trade? Only ever dealt with **** like this in low paying labor trades. And all you have to do is stand up for yourself and it won't be a problem, but if it's already happening and you're asking questions it's probably too late bro. Either stand up for yourself and not be a bitch and get to learn to get to a better trade, or just stand up for yourself and don't be a bitch.

All work environments will have pros and cons. At least this job gave you an idea what that is for construction. If you don't have anything to compare it to however, then you might want to keep trying different jobs till you find one that has the most tolerable set of pros vs cons for you. If you're young, retirement is going to be a long ways a way. May as well makes those decades the least stressful and most tolerable as possible.

Whenever we get a batch of new tradies, we all draw straws for who gets the sugar free monster. We all throw our monsters in the circle formed of tradies. Whichever new hire tradie wrestles for the green monster and loses and ends up with the sugar free monster has to be trained by the guy who drew the short straw. We do this daily until we get a new batch of tradies.

Try bringing the crew a round of energy drinks, donoughts, and cigarettes to appease them one morning at the start of the work day. Nothing makes tradies happier than unhealthy gas station crap.

lol i'm going through something similar but i wouldn't say as bad/ slightly different

i'd say if you're that miserable than poke around.

at my job the boss isn't there, so the "leads" get to make up chit to fit whatever narrative they want. if things are going well, of course its them. if things aren't, of course it's not on them and it's on their apprentices

i'd say there's only 1 or 2 guys like you describe. if i got stuck with 1 of the guys it'd prob be like you describe. Id 100% quit if that were the case

one thing i've found at my company and ive seen it at others too is that tradies have this weird obsession with the "now". when i first started i couldn't say i was green, i had to act like i'd been a pro for so long; i must keep up the appearance. a lot of them aren't that smart so they don't teach. instead of taking the 2 seconds to potentially teach so that someone can learn it's better to bitch about how green they are, they have to do it, etc., etc.

Edit: theyre smart in their own way but dumb really. I honestly think i threaten most of them with my education and this creates a power play where they want to one up me. This will extend on the job where they want to prove they know more than me

I'm a tradie, if your boss is genuinely rough, other tradies will tell him to lay off. You sound like a pussy, but stick at it because it will toughen you up and after a couple months on the tools you will be amazed at how skilled you have become compared to a normal person (we call them muggels).
