If you think about it Dan could have really screwed over Forrest. Only reason Forrest was a millionaire himself was because Dan looked out for him. Pity he only got that 2/10 wife and some titanium sticks as legs for all that effort.

Lieutenant dan was a good man with values. You got the sense of that when forrest was carrying him out of the battlefield and he was reluctant to go because he didnt want to leave the platoon. And when those hookers insulted forrest and he immediately stood up for him.

It would be completely out of his character to betray forrest like that.


And he might have ended up with an ugly wife and metal legs, but he found something invaluable: happiness. Thats something a lot of people, especially coming back from the vietnam war, never found even with two legs and a hot wife.

For sure, Dan had a pretty pure heart. It just took him a long time to get over being cheated out of his destiny (being killed in battle). Dan didn't screw Forrest because he was his best friend.

Chit had no clue. Watched the movie once as a teen and forgot all about what happened. Googled though, and apparently the screen writer confirmed that they were going to make a sequel, if it wasn't for 9/11 happening. And in the sequel Forrest Jr. was going to have AIDS, genetically inherited from the mom. Crazy chit.
