A lot of people are saying Resident Evil , silent Hill, and evil within but if you want something truly different and adrenaline pumping scary that will have you sweating, play Alien Isolation.

RE7
Amnesia: Rebirth
Alien Isolation

Love playing a horror game every year at spooky season. Horror movies are much less appealing to me.

Surprised to see so many people mention dead space.

Played it for the first time after re 7 and re village and didn't find dead space to be very strong horror wise. Maybe if I'd played it when it came out I'd feel different.

Alien isolation is very tense, slightly too long though imo.

Kinda stuck for horror games at the moment as don't think anything is out that will match the polish of the most recent re games

^ I was disappointed in the Evil within 2.
It felt too much like an open world game and I didn't find it as scary as the first one.
The game felt smoother though for sure.

I did jump out of my seat when the fuken sound came out of my controller with that long hair monster singing, lmao. Did NOT expect that

The Evil Within 1 is a way better game, much scarier too. The art design is incredible

2 was a massive let-down universally & runs like dog chit on any PC; I remember getting like 40fps on a 1080ti just lol

Bro what

They're the most cookie-cutter antagonists I've ever seen, they never develop as characters, they don't even tie into the original story from the first game and it's supposed to be a sequel

Ruvik is the main antagonist that created the STEM world and he was a genius psychopath, far more powerful than any of them in the second game as his brain is the core of the entire world

ZJqqrjrp7Jw
Manhunt was never really as scary as it was just really dark and violent. Condemned was the same sort of game, but I guess at certain points they get creepy enough to give you jump scares.

20 out of 10 best game ever and creative as hell with best intro and first 2 hours ever seen in a horror game and best horror villains ever and continues to get better leading up to one of the most satisfying endings ever in gaming history.

Even Steam reviews agree with me. Consensus is on my side.

Check and mate.
Brah there's literally a thread on steam ongoing from 2016 where tens of thousands have been contradicting everything you're saying about TEW:2

No one says it's a terrible game but everyone agrees it pales in comparison to the first aside from gunplay

You're the first person I've ever seen say they like the second one better, srs

The art & level design/direction in the first game is arguably the best ever; chit is horrifying

Edit: you can't say which is better without having played both; go do it srs

Resident Evil and Silent Hill games are classics, of course.
Alien Isolation, Outlast, Evil Within are all good.
The Castlevania series isn't horror or scary, really, but it's a great "Halloween season" game. Castlevania 64 is one of my fav games from back in the day.
Old school Friday the 13th on NES was effective for it's time, srs.
Indie Horror games can be pretty decent.

Days Gone was underrated. The first time the horde got me, I had no idea what was happening, just went down a mine shaft and all the sudden was getting swarmed. Tried to back out with my bike and died right at the entrance. Was awesome.

There's a 10 point difference between the overall reviews on Steam between the 2, 82% vs 92% positive.

The acting and writing quality went up between the 2 games.

I've watched a speedrun of part 1, I dislike the burn mechanic.
I did play part 1 up until the 3rd stage.

I'm glad part 2 does not require playing part 1.

The 1st stage itself was super confusing and way too unforgiving, it gives you no indication what you're doing is right or wrong besides instadeath, as far as stealthing past that awful murderer.

The stealth in 2 makes sense in comparison.

Idk man, we have very differing opinions of these 2 games lol. I wanted to throw my keyboard on the 1st stage of 1.

TEW2 is the horror game that not enough people have even played, and to me, I don't even know what I'd change to improve it. And the reason most haven't played it is because TEW1 was so divisive.

It had some good ideas but the execution wasn't what it should have been.

I don't really have a desire to play it, the story doesn't even grab me. It starts out cool and I bet the stem stuff gets cool like it does in 2, but probably would end up being 6 or 7/10, tops, for me.

2 ends on such a high note for me.
Disagree

EW1 had crazier scenarios, better and more numerous bosses, scarier art design, stronger/more unique story (two is just another cliche desperate father protecting daughter horror game), and more interesting characters/antagonists (Seb was a better and completely different character in 1, Joseph/Kidman/Ruvik are better than whoever the Morpheus agents were/Stefano/Myra). Evil Within 2 was really just more polished gameplay wise. Also, the open world stuff <<<< linear crafted scenarios in most horror games.

The ambiguous ending in EW1 was also better than the feel good happy ending in EW2. I don't play horror games or watch horror movies to feel happy. EW1 was the better entry IMO. Mainly because it was actually Mikami behind development. EW2 was some kid American protégé of his.

Prey 2017 was seriously under-rated. Love the Nightmare.

I had forgotten that Sebastian was a different person in the first game; when they changed his voice actor for #2 I was cringing the entire game, it's awful

And yeah Ruvik, Joseph, Kidman were infinitely better characters that you actually learn to care about, all protagonists had their own back story and it wasverywell done how they all got drug into STEM

Again everyone is "fleshed out" whereas in #2 the characters feel like set-pieces

Dead Space is being remade. I'd pick it up. That said EA ruined the series.

Keep an eye out for Collisto Protocol. It's being made by the lead Dead Space Dev.
