Just watched Idris Elba's The Harder They Fall on Netflix - 10/10 camerawork. Srs.

Anyone else watch this yet? The story was decent enough, the soundtrack was fun. But above everything - the cinematography was some of the best I've seen in my whole life. Dead srs.

- Every shot perfectly balanced. If you see a building in the background, exactly half will be on one half of the camera while the other half will take up the other half. They busted out the tape-measure for this.
- Striking use of color
- Camera shots at angles to denote tension
- Almost every dialogue heavy scene is done with crazy low aperture, so the people giving dialogue are sharp & in focus, and then everything else is immediately blurry

Again, every other aspect of the movie is a B or B+, but it felt like a masterclass in cinematography.











It reminded me of Oblivion - a Tom Cruise movie from 10 years back that also had perfect cinematography where each shot scene had incredible balance. If you guys watch either of these movies you'll instantly know what I'm talking about

Zazze Baetz plays Stagecoach Mary, an actual outlaw from the 1850s. Jonathan Majors plays Nat Love, who reall did lead a gang of bankrobbers, and so on. All of these black cowboys and bank robbers were real.

I'll check it out. Sounds interesting.


If you tend to like the work Idris Elba does I highly recommend the series "Luther". 10/10 binge for fall/winter when you're stuck inside because of rain/snow.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

And like I said - if you enjoy this movie and marveled at the camerwork as much as I did, then check out Oblivion after that. Same stunning attention to cinematography and crazy emphasis on balance in every shot.

So who are they fighting? Based on the cast it's pretty much all black, so is it two black gangs fighting in the old west? Is this an origin story for Ferguson, MO?

I thought it was pretty good until the third act/climax scene.

I thought it was edited really poorly. Seemed like the entire climax was happening shot after shot instead of all at the same time. It was bad enough to take me out of it.

I'd give it a 7 or 7.5/10
