Well i didnt work the trades for 1.5 years. They put me in framing and my whole body was sore all weekend. Improved my physique tho.First jab pfzier. My stomach was a bit unsettled this morning so I just left, but yea I accidently said I have covid so now they want me to get tested. Waste of time imo.

I actually had a short stint as one but they let me go on probation. Went around upgrading school Hvacs, and one time had a 3 hour lunch break, but I accidently got baked lol

I fuken hated it. I just quit. The leads were such ****s . I think I threatened them.

It happened quite a few times where the lead would show me the blueprints and I'd remember them the next day so when they went to tell me we were doing x, I'd be like I know and go from x to x. And then They'd be sure to try to gain power again and act like i was stepping on their toes

They'd tell me to listen, so ok I'd listen. Then they wouldn't tell me what to do, then they'd ask why I was standing around. Then when I took initiative and started doing my own thing they reminded me I was an apprentice and chit down my throat

It was always a power play. Didn't matter what I did they just wanted power, which again, is why I think threatened them. It was their way of taking back the power

They'd always do little chit in day to day that would amalgamate into the scenarios I'd say

I could even have a day that was going fine and then a woman gave me attention and They'd make sure to exert their power like a ******* when we working

If I came in and just blew by them it would be the same exact scenario and the leads would chit down my throat and tell me how long They'd been in the business and been there

I liked it during the span of less than 3 months. The hardest part was drilling holes for conduits in like walls, inbetween rooms to upgrade switches. A lot of stress for journeymen that are ultimately responsible for the finished product. Also, new panels.

Also, gotta worry about sensors going bad, school temps going down, etc.

I did my pre-employment certificate at a polytech school and scored a 90% on the first year exam. Theory, math, codes I all have a thorough understanding of.

Worked in the wire crew for an utility company , and got some awesome tradie experience doing 50 hr work weeks.

Then also at the plant, pulled wires, built fans, and spliced wire to switches, octagon boxes, amd ordered inventory. Worked with loomex. Also prepped circuit panels.

Our experience sounds different albeit a little of the same. I was doing service/ condo remodels mainly. My commercial experience is mainly condos with a few businesses thrown in.. Never really used emt we used Mc and plastic smurf and pvc pipe normally

Thats cool about the schooling stuff. Are journeyman bossing you around and you're like a a yes man? Or do the journeyman let you do your thing and come back and check it?

In regard to your comment about liking it when you were new have you found the more you get to know the more they're getting on you? Cause I explicitly had a lead say that about me and someone else. He was using someone else as an example and saying that when they got into the Grey area where they knew a bit they started not listening and chit

Yeah, I have roughly 2 years electrical experience man. At the plant we built housing units for big out-of-town projects like Bc hydro and Lng.

The thing at atco is, while I've helped frame in the past, I really don't know too much in regards to blue prints. And the guy I helped even admitted his english isn't so good so it's hard to communicate. Even a journeyman electrician there who worked since 2004 barely says anything and it's hard to understand him. Like right now, we are building one unit a day, so everything gets done at 3pm. And I can see why they gave me a 2 weeks notice like right after I got back, lol.

I can see the reasoning behind the double negative. Like the more the upcoming apprentice knows, then the more likely your own job is at risk in the future. Hehe.

that's prob about where i am. i finished trade school which is 1500 hours and have ~6 months on the job training

yea bottom line.. i think most tradies are stupid. i dont think it's explicit or inherent with the job, but most of them are

regarding the blueprints.. exactly. they never really taught me anything either. it makes sense though... most of them prob sucked at school and def. aren't teachers so it is what it is

i guess the stealing work thing is true, but i didnt really look at it that way. i dont see it like them getting fired, though maybe it could put their job more in jeopardy as to who is more or less expendable. but i thought it was more like i would eventually become a lead and do my own work where they're not affected. if its a union, or you're talking about a union, that definitely goes on
