We will do nothing about this except use it as an excuse to invade Iran.

The risk is China expanding its world power and influence. The CCP oppresses all under their power. You never want to see an evil, potential superpower expanding. They become a greater threat for the rest of the world

Delusional.

The world has never seent more evil than what the US military has done.

Your military needs to be dismantled and the people heavily taxed to pay for their forefathers sins.

It's the industry Taiwan controls. They have about 60% of the semi-conductor industry and make quite a few other things too. A ton of PC/server components come from TW.

Have you noticed how difficult it is to buy new computers, video game consoles, cars, etc.?

That problem increases by 10x when/if China invades Taiwan

worse than that, the industry is put on hold for who knows how long - america needs to start ramping up fabs for the inevitable

The reason why China does most of the chips is not because of the materials, it’s because of the labor. The market will adjust in some form. We just don’t know what it is because markets are unpredictable. They could start using more efficient processes, pay lower wages, use a different material… or go in a completely different direction altogether. We won’t know until it happens, but one thing is for sure, the market will adjust in some manner to remain competitive

America is working on it. Problem is it takes years and billions to get them up and running. TSMC (Taiwan company) is setting up a fab in AZ which supposedly will primarily cater to US DoD.

That's nice - even if someone else owns it, it's a huge advantage being on our soil. In a state of emergency we could simply 'requisition it for the foreseeable future' lol.

yep, domestic manufacturing capability of semiconductors is a national security concern. The details of the infrastructure bill relating to semiconductors are still being worked out, but its likely that TSMC and Intel will receive tens of billions in subsidies to develop these new fabs over the next few years.

Hopefully we toss some bones to Crucial/Micron Tech too. They've been one of our most solid producers since the 80s.

Exactly. The US used to be a powerhouse for manufacturing semiconductors.

Intel totally screwed up in recent years with their manufacturing process and aren't really that reliable. AMD had to sell their manufacturing division global foundries as a result of Intel screwing AMD so bad with the anti-competitive business practices about 15-20 years ago.

It is this reason I hate Intel as a company because they slowed semi-conductor innovation with those anti-competitive practices so they could essentially become a monopoly. If Intel hadn't engaged in those shady practices we would arguably be a decade further when it comes to semi-conductors and arguably still have a good portion of semi fabs domestic.

The good news is AMD has arguably better chips now, at least in laptops and desktops. Their high end desktop CPUs perform like a server CPU.

I hope intel doesn't get a dime even though it is a huge national security concern. They are a big portion of why we don't have the huge semi-conductor manufacturing presence we did 20 years ago. Intel rolled in hundreds of billions for the better part of a decade by running competitors out of the industry with their illegal business practices.
Intel has lost a challenge against a record 1.06 billion euro ($1.43 billion) fine that it was handed in 2009 for anticompetitive behaviors in Europe.
https://www.theverge.com/2014/6/12/5...tive-practices
Too lazy to find the US lawsuits, but these billion dollar fines are nothing compared to the monopolistic advantage they gained.

They got fat and happy and stopped innovating and now we have the problem we see today. Almost no domestic fabs and the ones we do have suck by comparison to companies like TSMC.

AMD chips are great. They just don't manufacture them domestically anymore since they had to sell their fabs to stay in business.

TSMC is in Taiwan. The T actually stands for Taiwan. They make the most advanced chips on earth at 5nm powering all iPhones and advanced small equipment on the planet.

Nah he's right, they ****ed with the competition and it stifled their own innovation. You need some competition to motivate advancements. Now that AMD is doing well Intel has to try harder to keep up.

Thats just propaganda by AMD-cels. Intel did well enough.

Its not like even today modern CPUs are bottle-necking most games or apps, its the GPUs where all the limits are. And its not like there were huge leaps even now, neither AMD or Intel did anything extremely better (like for example what Apple M1 are doing) but its also not the scope because they are mainstream consumer products.

By nature they will have a balance between performance and accessibility in price. They have to mass produce it for reasonable prices. The push between competition makes very little difference.

an 8700k and a 12900k are not THAT far apart and can both run most modern 2d games at max no problems.

This whole competition angle is a simpletons paradigm. A laymans understanding of business empires.

The truth is Intel has been doing just fine, its good they are making more US fabs but this whole narrative of trying to get them to fight is so binary and retarded. Its a lot more complicated than that.

People are just disrespectful to the OGs of CPUs. Their relationship is with their customer and their products and they have enough common incentive to get their customers to buy new faster products they dont need people trying to ruin their image and business reputation considering they still as of this day for 20 years have been delivering the best product in its class and the best support for it in the software world at large.

Respect the Intel empire and legacy. If not neither you nor your opinion deserves respect and you are no better than a spineless cuck.

Cope.
