Strong. You got 16 fuking applicants and still complain. They spend time applying for a job they have a 6% chance of getting.

With 200 applicants they had a 0,5% of getting it, which is completely insane. Might as well go get a scratch ticket or some stupid chit

Unfortunately, you do not pay well, if its hard to find employees.

I see this all the time, places claim great pay, great benefits, but those are not facts, they are claims lol

Alright, maybe my neg was justified when you put it this way lol.

Even submitting a resume with a 6% chance is a waste of time.

Supply and demand. OP is looking for para-legals. It works like this. Industry A is shorthanded, so they start to look for people with the potential, or at least some ability to do a job they need, and start pulling from Industry B, causing Industry B to have the same issue, so enters Industry C.

Realistically assess the market average, pay more than that and at minimum annually increase salary in line with CPI. Assuming your workplace isn't a dumpster fire you'll get get some competent people who are prepared to stick with that job for years if not decades.

If you pay roughly the same as everyone else, what makes working for your place better than the best of your competition? Are you a prestige organisation that puts serious runs on their resume? Do you give them a company car and full medical? Sounds like you try for some workplace flexibility, but guess what, so do a lot of places. If you want to inspire loyalty you have to be offering something unusual and money is a good place to start.

I would guess the stress of the situation, working in law would be a negative for a worker/paralegal that just left.

In the later 90s, all those years ago, I can remember how difficult it could be for many firms to hire workers. For my father's/ family company though we found ourselves in a different position. We continued to have many people wanting to work for us during the labor shortage. I think the big difference between our firm and others was my father/we other family members worked at trying to create a happy, enjoyable place to work at. Our pay was good but a few other places locally offered more. Our environment though wa the best, most of the time.

I was reminded of that this week having received an e-mail from a former employee. After all these years he remembered and wanted to let me know, how much he enjoyed working for us. H talked about how our work environment saved his marriage. The pervious company he worked at payed more but was a much more stressful place to be at, stress that he would take home with him and upset his family, wife and daughters.

our whole county is like 50,000 people. No businesses with in 50 miles offer company cars. After working for us for 5 years it would be easy to get a job as a clerk for a judge

And before Covid we had employees that lasted years, our head paralegal has been with us for 15 years. He makes more money than most college graduates. He almost made 6 figures last year.

We are a small firm. All the firms here are. There isnt any big cities around

Men used to take pride in their work

now the corporate world doesn't offer men any incentive. Sure we gotta survive, but do I really have to talk to mentally ill people with pronouns all days? There are more dignified ways to make a living

Problem with this model, while it's the best way to approach it is that younger people today have been hold hopping jobs is the best way to move up and increase salary. Once they have experience usually it is actually better to apply for higher level jobs.

Workplaces also need to take a realistic look at their compensation relative to other similar companies and make it at least the same or better. And if someone comes in at a higher salary level than everyone else doing the same job, those others should all get a raise, not find out six months later that Bob makes 5k a year more than them in the same position.

You're probably just an awful person to work for and don't realize it.

Not even meant as a dig, really. Some people just aren't cut out to be in charge and no one ever tells them.

I had a job earlier this year where my boss gave me half of another guy's workload 'temporarily' while he found a replacement and then told me after a week he wasn't going to find a replacement. So that was just my job now.

So I went from working an 8 hour day to a 10 hour day. No problem, I said, I just need a 25% pay increase since I'm working 25% more hours.

The guy looked at me like I had two heads and gave me a half hour speech about how his business made no money and he couldn't afford to pay me more.

Then the next day his cousin conveniently yelled at me, I yelled back and boom I was fired on the spot. This was a job where I had zero incidents of any kind before that.

From a mutual friend I heard the guy that replaced me quit after two days.

I guarantee that guy complains about how he can't find good employees even though he had a great employee in me who never missed a day or even showed up late, never had a customer complaint and always had a positive attitude.

All I did 'wrong' was ask to be paid fairly.

Some small business owners just are their own worst enemies.

I went back to by gig job making the same $ per hour and now just work like 30 hours a week and have time for a life outside of work.

Also we are taught by employers that we are replaceable and will be fired without notice so why give notice when we choose to leave? Employers want everything their way. That's fine, they can do the job themselves then.

Yeah it's always mind blowing when employers lose a staff member (and therefore having to pay them) and then don't distribute that savings over the remaining employees if they decide to not add them back but expect the same output. He's too dumb to realize he would have still saved most of that other person's salary but kept a good employee.

If you make a choice to have less staff than before but expect the same work, the remaining people should get paid more. But if you suggest that they are like shockedpikachu.jpg.

I've got a short list of candidates for a new role in my business; 6 people from within the industry who are all wanting to come into my business - but I've also had calls from people asking for jobs at random now with no experience whatsoever - I'm assuming they are no longer getting free money

TL;DR - headhunt someone if they are worth it. Might have to pay them a little more but you'll get someone who wants to work and knows the role
Its the same everywhere mate. The people were here before this bullchit, now they're not, also there not on furlough anymore over here because it doesn't exist. So where the fuk did they go? Same as yourself - I put a FB advert up for a position prior to this, which I removed after 2 days as the applications just did not stop coming. Same job, same advert 2 months ago and I got 5 applications, boosted it and got another 5 lol.

He cried that having me and the other guy whose work I had to take over he was 'losing money.'

As if it was my fault he was a bad business man. It wasn't even remotely true. He was just used to hiring his loser cousins who would do whatever he said and never expect a raise.

It seems since Covid it’s been ridiculously hard to find a good employee that wants to stay in the job.

He was a great employee, very smart.

He does find the job stressful, had a lot of anxiety but he had his own office, 1 1/2 lunch breaks, gets to walk the dogs serval times a day if he wanted tools and mental health days. I try to make it comfortable. As long as his work gets done, I’m happy

I pay well, even gave him his Xmas bonus early because he over spent on his vacation cruise last month and was needing money for bills. I offer 300 dollars a month for health insurance and 23 dollars an hour.

Since Covid this is the third employee to quit the jr paralegal job. I hate training new people, idk what else to do.

Ideally, I would like someone who has experience over any type of degree. But most of all I would just like an employee that shows up consistently, works efficiently and sticks with the job.

What else can I offer to find a decent employee? Do people just not want to work?
It’s not hard to find good employees, it’s hard to find good employees that will work for **** wages. You want to have your cake and eat it too like every other employer in this market, but now you’re gonna have to pay up due to skyrocketing inflation (thanks to #LetsGoBrandon). But capitalism is a bitch!

23 an hour? What does that come out to? 28K a year after taxes? When a one bedroom apartment in a decent area is 1,200 a month and he can make more sitting on his ass at home doing nothing? There’s your answer.

$23 an hour ain’t ****. McDonald’s probably pays that to kids still in high school now

So like 40k a year with semi benefits? Lemmmmmeeee think … why would this have high turnover …?

This is also the case. I’ve noticed a phenomenon over the years, whether it is already named or recognized is up for debate but; it seems to me that the people LEAST qualified to be in charge, always end up in charge. It’s like corporate looks at someone and goes “Yea! They’re aggressive, bossy, and don’t take no for an answer! They are perfect for management!” The reality being that they are just a moron with irrational self confidence and a severe case of Dunning-Kruger. They then proceed to make everyone miserable with their “I’m right all the time don’t ****ing question me” attitude. People that are actually smart and reflective question themselves and their decisions constantly, and aren’t afraid to take feedback. These types don’t often seek out positions of authority though, because they self-doubt and don’t want to cause harm or fail themselves or their team.

We are a small firm. All the firms here are. There isnt any big cities around
15 years deep into a law career and he gets to 'almost' earn 6 figures
