This is what I was thinking. From my limited knowledge most handguns simply don't have enough stopping power to make them useful against a grizzly. You'd already be long ripped to shreds if/when the bear succumbs to it's injuries.

a 44 mag would drop a bear if it's in the chest. People use 357 as protection. You'd have 7 or 6 rounds. But thats what makes it hunting and not sniping. Do you really think a bear can take 2 rounds near center mass? Sorry but you guys must not own guns

It’s not just them turning on you, it’s not enough power to ethically hunt grizzly with. This guy arguing with me doesn’t know what he’s talking about. For reference a .223 Like Kyle rittenhouse used With a 70gr bullet has more muzzle energy than a 50ae with a 300gr bullet.

Shot a smallish doe four days ago with a 30-06, 180 grain nosler partition.

Perfect double lung.

Ran 180 yards full blast and fell over dead. Took it like 5-8 seconds to cover that distance.


I'm making no guarantees on what any bullet would do to any animal. Also stoned a smallish black bear about a month ago with a 40 grain .22mag. Dropped almost instantly.


Truth is, you never really can tell what a particular round will do, and add shot placement and the fact that a grizz can kill you after even a perfect shot and all bets are off.

Not sure I'd bet my life on a double tap with a .44.

IMHO animals can be killed quickly and humanely for food or some other reason like overpopulation of animals in certain areas, self defense, defense of your farm animals etc.

But to kill for any other reason = you’re a stupid ****g0t.

this guy had a charging brown bear with 15 yards and dropped him with .454 Casul - if I remember correctly, the Ruger Alaskan in .454 holds five rounds and he had a bad crimp in his last round
