Fixed blade or Switchblade best for EDC?

Fixed blade pros:
- faster to pull and be at ready, can be done with one hand
- No moving parts, no chance of mechanical failure when knife is needed.
- longer reach due to blade longer than folding knives
- strong due to being full tang
- multi-purpose for big tasks

Cons:
- larger harder to carry
- harder to conceal
- if carrying a gun, lack of concealment space
- due to lack of concealment, alerts more people
- possible sheath printing

Switchblade Pros:
- easy to conceal in a pocket
- easy to be ready with one hand
- No printing/sheath not needed
- doesn’t interfere with concealed handgun carry
-multi-purpose for small tasks

Cons:
- slower to be ready than fixed blade
- mechanical, so possibility of breaking when needed most
- lower reach due to blade length
- possible weakness at hinge

Get a Cold Steel Recon 1 and be done with it.

The "slower deployment" means nothing 99.99999% of the time.

You can also carry a larger folding blade for the same overall carry profile compared to a fix blade because the blade folds and the size is cut in half.

if you think it will be for combat / defending your life in a split second, a fixed blade is what you want.

If you just want general utility, folding is more convenient

A folder also "reads" as less of a weapon and more of a tool in my opinion - a pocketknife is a more reasonable thing for the average person to carry around.

At least where I live you can carry a blade of a certain length without issue so I don't mean as a legal thing, more the vibe you're putting out there.

Do you find that that the fixed interferes with your concealed carry? I prefer appendix carry, which leaves a fixed blade being carried either on the side or rear.

I suppose it comes down to which situation you’re most likely experience in your environment. If it’s something at a distance then appendix carry your pistol. If you’re expecting something that could be within 20 feet, then whichever carry position allows the fastest blade draw to your style.

Maybe if your started the confrontation in a position where the other guy is on top of you. But a handgun is about a lot more than the bullet that comes out of it. Simply showing you have it will de-escalate 99.9% of confrontations.
