Why are cartels so brutal to each other's rivals?
We've all seen and read the stuff that mexican drug cartels get up to and I still dont understand it ... Is the poverty there so bad that people are willing to join cartels in the hopes of making some form of income? but even then, they'd have to realise that joining up a cartel doesnt necessarily mean that you're gonna be making a lot of money as a lot of these guys will just be regular footsoldiers on the front line and probably dont make much (perhaps they make more than trying to earn an honest living). However, on top of that these are guys don't realise that they're entering into a life that is beyond violent and that chances are you're not gonna survive very long - Even worse, rival cartels and even your cartel will absolutely brutalize you in the worst possible ways if you fuk up/get caught by one of them. The best you can hope for is a quick bullet, otherwise you're gonna be subject to all sorts of brutal torture methods.
Apart from that, why even the brutality? it's like these guys get some sort of sick pleasure in inflicting the most fkked up kind of pain on another ... Obviously it's for fear, but doesnt seem like it works because the cartels dont really back down and either more keep popping up or its just an endless cycle of retaliation. How tf does someone go from a regular human bean to cutting off people's limbs, heads, stuffing bodies into acid bins, cutting off penors and still have semblance of humanatty or normal life.
And that's just the cartels ... You have the government on top of that trying to hunt you down if they decide to stop working with you lol.
Must be something in the water in mexico because I dont think any other terror groups or fukked up countries elsewhere in the world go to the lengths that drug cartels do in order to dish out violence.
Not even bringing up the fact that why someone would want to choose to be a cop in mexico.
Any mexican miscers just walk through the streets and witness shootouts like it's a regular thing?

Probably a result of growing up in complete poverty with extremely abusive/neglectful/absent parents. The psychological toll abuse has on children is fking brutal. They probably grew up around violence and that's all they ever knew so it's normal to them to conquer their enemies in the most fked up way possible. Think of medieval times where authorities would inflict torture on peasants and commoners as punishment for petty theft and chit. It was just normal. It's inconceivable for people who grew up in a loving and moral environment.

There's a deep and sinister evil to it. The Mafia may be psychopaths but as I understand it generally they'll just kill as efficiently as possible whereas these cartels............

A cartel is a group of businesses working together to control the market and prices. This snuffs out would be new competitors and takes control from the consumer. Drug dealing is kind of an "anti social" business. in the sense that the dealers are all hardened thugs. Their brain isn't wired the same as a result of their childhoods and experiences up to and including their early 20s. Now, think about being in prison, and think about what it would take to control the biggest and toughest dudes in there. Reasoning isn't in their nature. They are either exploited/coerced by sheer force, or you have something they want and need to keep you alive to get it.

Aren't South American cities overwhelmingly the deadliest in the world? I could be wrong. I do remember their serial killers getting pretty short sentences after racking up insane kill counts of like, 500+ victims. (And people think Ted Bundy is the serial killer archetype...they've never heard of Pedro Alonso López and Luis Garavito.)
