Fake calling in sick. Call them out and risk them quitting?
Fkn bullchit - scheduled to work but calling in sick last minute saying they’re throwing up and went to doctor but did not send a proof of doctor visit.
Could hear in the background as if they’re driving somewhere. Heard from a birdie they’re heading out of town.
If I call them on it, I know there is no doctor’s note and hence they’ll prolly need to quit and replacing people has not been the easiest task.
Let them run all over me or call them out on it?
Let them run all over me = pain short term and maybe long term for the term of employment
Call them on it = they quote = pain short term and hire someone new and train and whole nine yards

Just tell them
"I know you're not sick, bullchit your friends don't bullchit me."
"With that being said, plan ahead and tell me you *need* time off and I will do my best to accommodate you in the future. Do this again and it will be the last time."

With that being said, "scheduled to work" sounds like a chitty job where you can't get time off without bullchitting your boss.

Some people are just bullchit imo and it’s never enough. Also the pay scale is not all that great so that’s got a lot to do with this.

Yeah dude it’s tough.
Does your company have a clearly-stated attendance policy that addresses situations like this? And do typically have them review and sign the attendance policy during orientation?
It’s sometimes easy to force someone out by simply doing disciplinary actions and making the workplace unpleasant until they leave of their own accord.
But sometimes they fight you and will go behind your back, talk chit about you to other staff, file false reports against you, smear your character, and make your life a literal hell. Basically try to sabotage you.
The best thing you can do is build their file. Provide written educations and have them sign them. Any interaction pertaining to their job from a possible termination standpoint needs to be documented very well. It’s a lot of work, but it saves your ass in the end.
The biggest thing is to not get angry at them or take it personally, and it’s often good to have a second person present who is on your side and also a manager. You have to build up a case for termination and their habits and behaviors will often cause that to happen.
But you need to engage in risk management to minimize the likelihood of a wrongful termination lawsuit, and you also have to manage the perception of your coworkers who may have been told you committed some offense that you didn’t commit, but was a false allegation in an attempt at revenge.
Managing people is the most disturbing and painful job.

Let people take their PTO. srs If they take more than their PTO, might want to have some questions.
Anyways, I'm one of those who will come in really sick but more likely to call out if I'm under the weather. If I feel that I'm getting sick, I have found that if I just sleep that day and rest up, I usually am fine the next day or it stats getting better. If I don't, then it sets in then Im really sick. When I'm really sick it seems to make me feel better to get out and moving and I know that you shouldn't do right now because scamdemic.

If you think your employees are calling sick without being sick you need to ask yourself a few questions.
Are you a bad boss?
Is there something about the job that makes people pretend to be sick rather than come in? If yes, is it something you can fix or does the job or the work environment just suck. Simple questions.

I suppose these employees can go find a replacement job with real ease as every business is hurting for employees and hiring anything that moves.

If people are doing this, the only reasons are either
-theyve used all their annual paid leave and they REALLY need to go somewhere for personal reasons (could be to smash a chick, could be for a friends birthday, who knows). But in any case, it's unprofessional
- they hate their job, so they're willing to risk it. No one calls fake sick for a job they're scared to lose
- they hate you .so they don't care what you think/willing to take liberties
Probably a combination of all 3.
If I found myself absolutely needing time off and had no paid leave remaining, I'd respectfully request my boss if I could take it (and give an important reason). If he still said no, I'd said that's fine, can I take it as unpaid leave. If he still said no he's basically forcing me to work, so unless I had any important responsibilities to do or there was another exemplary reason he wouldn't let me take the day off, I'd probably just quit on the spot
If you have concrete proof they're lying, like an email from your colleague to that affect, I'd confront them aside and ask them directly about it and see what they say.
End of the day, you work in some retail store - what so you expect.
Similarly, you can fire them and get another guy in by weeks end. Why not just do that
I used to be a retail worker as my first job and it was completely evident thr company gave zero fukks about me, and I therefore gave 0 fukks about them. So works both ways.

Instead of calling them out and accusing them just have a chat with them without letting them know about the reason for it.
Get their point of view, see if they have any suggestions, maybe there’s something that can be done to improve the work-life balance.
Accusing and calling them out will only make things worse and you’ll be the bad boss in other employees’ eyes too
