What is your WPM (words per minute)?

I'm learning touch typing instead of using my two index fingers to type. It's fun (I'm using Typesy).

So far I finished learning all keys on the home row and I'm moving on to the top row now. I'm probably at 20 WPM. I was at 90 with two-index finger typing, but that's probably all I'll max out at. I also typo A LOT. Like 90% accuracy only.

I saw the requirements for court reporters. Literaries have to type at 160 wpm, Jury Charges at 180 wpm and Testimony/Q&A at 200 wpm. They need 95% accuracy. They can make $50k starting salary.

Normally top out in the 90s. Without trying I can get 80s. And that's on a laptop keyboard. Back in highschool I could get in the 100s, but I'm much slower now. Idk how people get those insane word per minutes. The fastest I ever saw anybody do was like 125.

Also helps when you get lucky and get a bunch of easy words in a row.

But are you two-finger typing or touch typing?

I average between 110-120wpm with 100% accuracy, srs.

I've topped out at 130WPM before 100% accuracy on a typing test, but that was after several attempts and going tryhard mode.

Depends on which hand I'm using. Sometimes it's fun to switch jerking hands, but then my typing speed goes down.

You realize court reporters use stenographs right? Very different from a keyboard. I've taken multiple classes on them, certified to be a court reporter, and I can type about 100 wpm on one.. which is slow AF. The average librarian is about the same, if they're a "professional". For court testimony yeah you'll need to be around 180 WPM.... on a stenograph... good luck with that.

Touch typing. We had to take a typing class in 6th grade, and I also took one in high school. Which in high school I just mogged the rest of my classmates because I was routinely around 110+.

Same here lol. I'm glad that for whatever reason, when I was like 13 and playing that game I made the decision not to use shorthands like "u" and "r" and the like, and opt for proper spelling and punctuation instead.

Payed off massively, especially since I ended up working in IT for several years.

Last time I did it was the first 130s with perfect accuracy, as per the test requirements. I can't imagine 180wpm. Yikes @50K/yr.

The average person types 38-40 words per minute. Professional typists can hit between 65 and 75 words per minute.

45 wpm accurately
80 wpm with 90% accuracy.

I don't believe the replies above, unless only the very fastest bothered to reply.

Also, my 10 key is "20 wpm", whatever that means with numbers, but I don't have much practice.

113 WPM ; Zero errors in HS. And that was with capitalization and punctuation.

However now it's around 93 because I spend more time building sh!t and less time on a computer.

It takes effort and isn't comfortable to type at high speeds. Professional typists probably average around 65-75 coasting, but I'd imagine they could easily hit higher speeds if they wanted too.
