Those from games do need a reasonable mode for anyone that doesnt want to spend 10 hours dying to every boss.

games today are often too long for me

before you had hard games that were relatively short so you could dedicate time to master it

nowadays truly mastering and completing a game takes 200+ hours or something, fuk that chit (srs)

All GBA bros who were there for the launch are very familiar with SMB2 as that was the first game released in the Super Mario Advance series.

I don't think I ever beat it, but I remember learning how to play it with my best friend at the time as we were playing the game together with our GBA's, it was so different from all the other Mario games. I think it's because it was originally not even a Mario game, it was just a reskin of some Japan-only NES game called Doki Doki Panic originally released for the west, the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros 2 was the Lost Levels as we know it today.

My old man figured out timing for that slot machine bonus game at the end of the level. He'd score me 70-80 extra lives then I could smoke the rest of the game.

I played both "SMB2s" because I had Super Mario All-Stars on SNES lol. Now I'm desperately trying to remember if I ever beat Lost Levels or if I just watched one of my brothers do it. LL was legit very hard, way more than any other SMB.

The Lost Levels is a notoriously hard game, it was basically just an extension to the original Super Mario Bros meant to be harder than the last world of that game that continues to get even harder. It has pretty much been the ultimate Mario Bros challenge until some of those crazy Mario Maker levels came about.

Funny thing is the Mario All Stars version of Super Mario Bros 3 was how I was originally introduced to the game, so when I went to play the NES version later it always felt off to me.

Unreasonable difficulty isn't a genre, every game has hard mode. Only difference is they have other options too
