Aside from censorship and trying to manipulate people by hiding this, it's also really annoying when just looking through normal non-controversial (according to youtube) videos. I was looking for a how-to video the other day, and before if something was 90% thumbs down, I knew not to waste my time watching it. Now I have no way of knowing.

See if you can reinstall the original app or a previous version on your phone.

I don't allow app automatic updates and I still have the dislike button - not sure how valuable it will be going forward but like you said, it can help weed through the garbage.

And now I see the dislike button is still on the browser version but it doesn't give you the count
