This is my Sara. She will be 14 this January. She's been with me through the thick and thin. I have other dogs but she's my first. I take her to work a lot. Just don't want to be away from her. She's getting old but it doesn't help. So a few hours ago, she was trying to get up and slipped. She does have a hard time sometimes so I went to try to help her up and she was struggling more than normal looking confused and then she fell limp. I thought this can't be the end. Pick her up and hold her, praying saying God don't take my dog. I mean she was limp, no reactions, she was gone brothers.... I swear if felt like her soul was trying to leave and I was holding it in there. I start making all kinds of promises to God, telling her to stay, don't go, stay with me, come on Sara come out of it. I could hear her breath and her heart beat but for a couple seconds it was silent. She starting coming back, breathing. She even chit on herself and pissed and I kept telling her it's okay you're still a good girl, you're the best girl, it will be okay daddy will clean it up. Take my life not hers **** I dont want to go through this. She came through and has been resting.



I know she's old. I'm afraid if I take her to a vet they are just going to tell me to put her down or whatever and bill me. I don't know what to do. Misc I don't know what to say. If you love your dogs you are lucky to have them and give them a hug. Im so greatful she pulled through but I know from a lot of signs her times is limited. She dies, she goes to heaven, but then the pieces have to be pick up and I'm not sure how that is possible.

It's sad but unavoidable so you need to brace yourself for the inevitable. Make her life good while she's still here that's all you can do. Hope still years left.

same thing happened to me man

looking back there were signs, but it kind of sprung up on me. and it was the worst time possible because i had just taken quite a bit of time off of work and i was due back for a really busy week. meaning, i wouldn't have been able to be there

i think he had kidney failure, cause about 2 weeks prior one day he was pissing a CHITLOAD. but it stopped, so i thought he was getting better. he wasn't eating much but i swore right before the seizure it seemed like he was going to eat cause he smelled food and went over to it. he actually had the seizure when i was making food

was also terrifying cause i thought i was watching him die as well.

i ended up putting him down, which i still don't know if it was the best decision. but it would have/ could have been much worse cause i would have been superrrrrrr pissed if i went to work and came back to him dead on the ground or something

he was aware and awake for like 3 hours after the seizure. still remember him being non responsive to most everything till i had him on the table and called his name and he looked up

was terrible. i debate getting another dog cause i dont want to go through that again. he was almost 20. i had him as like a 8 or 9 year old almost all the way up to 30

Like you said, I've seen signs and changes in her and I don't want to see it. I just keep hoping she keeps on going. She overall has seemed happy and still is eating and drinking. She had a treat and has drank water which is a good sign. CBD oil has really helped her over the past year or so. I fear that part to just coming home and finding her dead but I don't want her to miss a minute of life. What sucks about a dog is they don't live forever. I'm so blessed to have had her this long and I don't want to be greedy but I want some more.

agreed. i think i knew somewhat.. i have video of him the last night. he was super lethargic

but it was a very hard decision.

what i was also pissed off about was the helper lady at the vet was not helpful AT ALL. i'm like racking my brain trying to think of things to do and she would always shoot them down. i was like " are you trying to fuking convince me to put my dog down"

he was super old, had a heart murmur, was limping, etc. so we didn't know if he could be put under. i'd make a suggestion then she'd throw in some small suggestion like "but then we don't know what the black stuff was"

she said, and although she was right it was just the accumulation of suggestions that pissed me off, "you could spend thousands" and still not know where the problem was

while idk for 100% certain he could have last longer, it prob wouldn't have been much even if he could have, and it would have been much worse if i wasnt there

the decision to end it wasn't easy at all. was like... lets just get a little more fight

maybe get her kidneys checked. srs

I have 2 babies and I'm so sorry you're going through this. We never as a puppy parents ever want to get to this place but it happens. You'll know when it's her time to go and you'll do what you need to do so she can finally rest and be at peace.

Watching my cat have his two seizures was the most traumatic thing I've ever witnessed and I've seen people die in front me. Watching my old boy keel over and start twitching and convulsing violently and pissing on himself was crushing, and then feeling him sigh in my arms and relax as the vet gave him the shot after he had his second one was equally crushing.

OP, it's going to happen so just steel yourself as best you can and enjoy whatever time you have left together and make sure she's always comfortable. This is just how it goes. You loved her and took care of her and that's all that matters. It's okay to cry.

Oh man that's heartbreaking reading the OP. Will pray for Sara. Hope you have her for a bit longer.

Could be organs shutting down briefly, or parts of the brain. If there is an anti seizure drug that could prolong it, I'm sure the vet would take your money. But if none, the vet will encourage you to euthanize. They did for my cat.

Important thing is to have some final good memories with her.

Sorry to say it, but this was the beginning of the end for my dog. She went from completely normal to dead within 3 months, and seizures like this were the start.

I remember coming home from a walk once, walking up the steps to my front door and she just fell over, couldn’t get up, and made this awful noise that sounded halfway between a squealing pig and a siren. I thought maybe she tripped on the lead, but fact is her legs simply gave out and I had to carry her in. Took a good 20 minutes before she was able to walk again.

Unfortunately this will happen again. Make the most of the time you have left with your dog. Losing a pet you’ve had for over a decade is a brutal ordeal and it took me a few months to get over it

(Also, my dog was only 10 when she died. 14 years is a good run srs)

All the best to your dog. I know this feeling all too well. I grew up with 2 yorkies and one was about 6-7 and out of the blue let out this cry of "help me God" out of nowhere one night. I ran upstairs to get her and her eyes just connected with me like a dog praying to me to do whatever I could to save her. I'll never forget that look of desperation from her for me to save her from what I didn't even know was happening. I called my parents asap who were at a dinner next door and they got home asap. By then she was fine. She was good for the next 3 years until one day she wouldn't come in over the front door step. She ended up having what resembled a heart attack every few hours or so. The vet said she had a heart murmur and there was nothing they could do. Worst animal experience ever to watch a dog you love having a mild heart attack every few hours and looking at you in the eyes begging you to save her or put her to sleep. I finally had to tell my mom fk this enough is enough you've grieved long enough with her alive with this.

If they're having seizures and old then I'm sorry but there's a reason and really no good news anybody can give you. Love your dog and take care of it through it, and you'll know when it's time for her and for you.

Thank you everybody. It means a lot. I knew. I could see the signs. Sara passed away Monday 12/06/2021 about 2:55PM. I'm so lost and hurt right now. Fuk this life, she's all that really keeps me here. Having her cremated. I might scatter them or have it so when I die and am cremated we are mixed together and scattered together. I guess it really doesn't mattter. I'm at work trying to stay busy but can't seem to focus. FML Sara was the best of the best. My everything.

You know when you feel your dog's warmth, it comes from the warmth first created millions of years ago, so far back to the original dog, the original creature that was warm blooded that we are all related to. I don't know just a thought.

Lost one of my rabbits in a similar way. She was pushing a decade old, gave her some raisins one day (they were her favorite treat) and she started choking on one of them. Picked her up, tried to comfort and help her, but she died in my arms.

I don't think a vet would pressure you to put her down, but not sure they'll say there's anything to be done either.

I agree with most others, appreciate the time you have left with her and pamper her.

It's crazy. I had my previous dog from when was just an 8th grader kid. It's like a huge chunk of my life that I was used to having her by my side.
Cherish these moments you have her with you. I wouldn't really rely on vets too much, they either say that it's something that can't be helped or just milk as much as possible out of your wallet while accelerating dog's death with any treatment they can think of. Just spend more time with her.


Oh damn I missed your other post. Yeah as the dudes below say get another dog to distract you from the grief.

Get a new pupper ASAP. It's not somehow disrespectful to your old dog who passed. A new dog will help you get past the grieving quicker and there are tons of dogs out there that need good homes. You've got a void in your life right now. There is a dog out there to fill it. 100% srs.

My dog died 2 months ago after 2 months of dealing with kidney failure, e.coli, being unable to walk much and having a feeding tube at the end. He died from a cardiac arrest while getting a blood transfusion for his anemia. It was the most intense 2 months of my life. He was the same for me as Sara was to you. I also have him cremated and have his ashes in my bedroom.

I started looking for a new dogs a couple of weeks later , through petfinder. Also went to local shelters until I found my current dog, who is like my previous dog in terms of personality and even looks. He’s even more derpy and clingy.

It definitely helped finding a new dog to care for. I know this is the most difficult time that you’re going through but pain will soften. 14 yrs - what an amazing life she’s had.and judging by your posts - she was extremely well taken care of and loved!

Sorry for your loss OP. I know how you're feeling - I lost my pupper a couple of years ago. She was 17 and it took me a while to get over. Sending love!
