My dog passed away 2 days before my birthday, feels bad

I dont know if anyone has lost their furry companion but this was a first for me, had her all through my high school and most of my adult life but sunday morning into monday at noon her health was declining quickly. They found a tumor on her heart and was making her hemorrhage blood... Her feet were cold as ice the few minutes we had with her before she went into the upper room. It's a crazy hard being with her one minute and the next minute shes just gone

Sucks going back home and not being greeted by her anymore

yeah thats true just crazy how fast it shifted because I saw her Saturday morning and was fine as can be but by Sunday she wasn't moving, hardly ate, her feet were cold due to the blood loss and by yesterday afternoon gone. For the first time in my life I wish there was traffic to get there but magically I got there flying with zero traffic... so just our luck but yeah no more pain for her

sorry OP. dogs are the best.

my parents Cockapoo is like 14 now and has had cancer for 3 years now. But she's not in any pain. But I know it's going to be any day now. I love her so much.

Yup, I get it. My pup passed away last January 19th. Took her for a run and she had (what I believe to be at least) a heart attack. Didn't last more than 5 seconds or so and she was gone. It was the weird things that shook me too. Coming home and her not greeting me got me, but it was the irrational things too. Like, the next morning I got up (and of course missed her bc she was gone), but what hit me was that I didn't have to feed her breakfast. And it broke my heart bc I felt bad like, in my mind she's not gone and still needs to eat and I can't provide that for her. Took me a long time before I could get rid of her stuff. For me to realize it's real. I don't know, nothing about it is rational, but we all grieve in different ways. I just try to remind myself of this quote:

this my fear too I will see a pup innocent and loving but it would be hard for me to open my heart up like I did for her. Maybe in time but watching her fade away as her heart stopped really tugs on those heart strings

Agreed 100%. Loyalty for sure... still feels a bit wrong for me and it's been almost a year. We'll see in the future.

What's crazy is I stayed at my parents and the morning before work and I woke up stupid early but I got up to see her and I was just petting her because I think deep down I knew this was the last morning we had together but of course I was denying it and burying that feeling but its like she knew and so did I

after I left the vet I spent like 2 hours at her favorite park just remembering, damn dog one time the ball went over the fence and in her naive mind she thought jumping through the fence to get the ball would work lmao

Its a cold world but the sun comes up the next day

So sorry to hear bro =(

We had to put down one of our family pets back in August and it was one of the hardest things I've ever went through in my life.. Mostly because it was so fast and unexpected.. one minute they're there, an hour later gone. I remember that whole day feeling like nothing was real, everything felt empty? What breaks my heart the most is seeing her best friend (our other pet) wonder around the house looking for her =/ My wife and I are thinking about getting another pet, around the start of the new year.

Yeah everything from noon and beyond felt like a fever dream, she looked right into my eyes as the injections went in and man that has been branded deeeeeep into my brain now

You say that and you'll never replace that dog, no matter how hard you try. In fact the worse thing you can do is to try to get a dog just like the previous dog because you'll always compare the new dog to the original and it deprives that dog of really being "the dog". You will get a new companion that will fill that hole somewhat but be a different experience. If you loved a dog that much, remember there are thousads if not mllions of dogs out there that don't have that and they deserve that, so why not do the right thing?

With my Sara, I used to bring her to work, and she always had things at my work, and for whatever reason I brought those things home Friday. Yep, she was fine Saturday until the evening and she had a seizure and Monday she was gone. I could see the signs she was dying, I just was in denial.

Dont know if I could love a dog the same this dog saw me go through HS and college and part of my adulthood, I mean if my parents get another dog sure I will accept it but the love I had for her wont come close to the next dog

this has been one of the harder parts of it all, her not being there when I come through the door has been such a heart destroyer.
