did you guys watch Ballers? i though that was a realistic depiction of black men - especially NFL players. they had NFL players as writers, consultants, and actors. i loved that show!!!

i mean, there's a lot of jamaican/black barber shops in my area and I've been to a few of em, and at some point the topic of smashing broads might come up. but nothing like in the clip and probably not when a woman is present. just seems forced, embellished like a propaganda piece. can't speak for queers but never realized this was actually a big thing until now apparently

People chit on Tyler Perry for his depictions of Black folks in the South and bad writing but he doesn't have Hollywood controlling him.

I haven't watched the show except for the clip you posted but to me it doesn't seem like its purposely trying to portray ALL black men in that light. It looks like the new barber (the one talking about sex) is homophobic and is purposely trying to piss off the lesbian. You can see in his actions that it was his intention to make her feel uncomfortable so he started acting in a overly exaggerated misogynist way. To further reinforce this is a isolated event by that particular new barber, it seems like she's a regular there and she is surprised that someone is talking like that in her presence which means this has never occurred until that new homophobic barber started working there. Sure they could have used a non black actor to play the homophobe but the shows cast is predominantly black so any negative as well as positive characters will most likely be black.

I feel ya being annoyed by it, but you and I both know that black people haven't been the best at marketing themselves. For every 1 black actor or musician who walks away from a check to boycott the coonery (chappelle) there are thousands of starving artists who will gladly sell their soul as the token for a little scratch.

That's for every race. Principle is easy with a full stomach or from an ivory tower. A lot harder when hungry and wet.

ive never been to that type of barbershop but i dont think anyone can speak for ALL barbershop goers that this type of talk never happens at them.

with that said, the dialogue, acting, and writing of that scene is horrendous.

im actually quite bothered by the fact a female is in there. not only are boys not allowed to have their own god damn thing anymore, women come into our sphere and demand we change it.

Uh...I've been a Little Brother fan since they came out!

You know that their name was created because they felt they were the "Little Brother" of groups like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and those more conscious/alternative hip-hop groups? Sad they broke up. I think 9th teaches music theory at UNC now.
