In Florida at least, I lost license for a year, and couldn’t get a permit to drive to work for 6 months. Had to take a class before license reinstated. Was on probation for 2 years (they found a joint in my vehicle, so got extra for that). Had to pay impound lot to release vehicle. Community service. Random drug tests through probation office.

So for a first offense, barring property damage or injuring/killing someone, it was really just a financial burden.
