JM Press

Any of you guys do these for triceps? Feels like a better version of a skullcrusher to me. I've never seen anyone do them so I'm curious what would be a legit weight to be using

I don't know man it feels pretty good and I've seen videos of people saying it's much easier on the elbows than skullcrushers.

I add that movement into my training only when I’m out of movements to cycle or I’m bored. I’ve only ever done sets of 15-20 with lighter weight, maybe the most was 185. My flat bench was 405 at the time so relatively light compared to what I was pressing every week. All it gives me is eventual elbow pain, but it’s nice to have another movement to cycle in.

You didn't feel like it made your pressing stronger at all?

I Googled JM press, but none of the links explain what it stands for, other than saying it’s a hybrid of skull crushers and close grip bench press. Why do they call it JM press?

The guy who came up with it is named JM Blakely.

It feels find now. Maybe I shouldn't do it long term though. Who knows?

It just looks like an unnatural way for that joint to move. Pretty sure it was those types of exercises that lock your hands in a fixed position forcing a bit of internal rotation in the joint that jacked my left elbow up. You might be different. In hindsight I wish I'd ditched those exercises at the first signs of trouble.

You could be right. That's kinda what concerns me.

I'll go through periods where I use them. I actually like to do them on the lowest incline.

I used to do them like 15 years ago when West Side was big. then i realized they were retarded and I stopped. Always thought it was like someone with terrible form pressing the weight, like why the hell is it even an exercise. Same goes for spoto press, like wtf you're just stopping the bar a inch above your chest, if I were doing that and didn't call it a spoto press it'd just be terrible form.
Lifts:
Squat: 460x1
Bench: 400x1
Deadlift: 575x1
OHP: 250x2
Weight: 180 lbs.

Don't have heroes; look up to no one. Because as long as someone's leading the way, the best you'll ever be is second.

It looks like a good exercise that would probably be just as effective using dumbbells allowing for more natural joint alignment.

Just watched the video, this looks like an exercise you can do with dumbbells lying flat on the ground if you don’t have a bench press.

Interesting. I never considered doing it on an incline.

So you're saying it's ineffective for building triceps strength?

Yeah it might be safer with dumbbells. I was thinking the barbell one would be better for improving bench press strength though.

Named after JM Blakely of westside barbell.

I've been doing them in a smith machine the past few weeks. Takes the pressure off of the elbows a bit.
