I work as an executive in a company that sells a product. We purchased a piece of software that improves on the product. We charge a premium fee for users to add this service to their order that is fairly priced for the time/effort involved. A lot of customers would make their personal and professional workflow so much better but in other verticals in their lives (verticals that don't necessarily affect the same demo as our product because its in a different cost category). I enjoy teaching and would love to start a YouTube channel on how to use it and how to improve in this increasingly popular field. If I build a completely new contact list through my own marketing efforts and create a sales-funnel with an affiliate link for that company by educating clients on how to use this software, can my company argue that I am costing them potential paying customers of the premium fee and take legal action against me? Is the better move to go to the owner and offer him a cut of it? Is he legally entitled to all of it? I don't believe I have signed anything that legally prevents this but that doesn't mean he cant sue me. He has a large legal team.
