Wife's uncle (67, decent shape low body fat) had a heart attack last night, made it to hospital in 5 minutes. Currently in medically induced coma and hypothermic chamber. Should know more in 72 hours. He's got a PhD in nuclear stuff and does highly classified stuff for our country, he retired a few years back but still consults for the government and teaches.

I'm not looking for sorry or anything, I don't know him that well. I'm just saying enjoy your holidays, it sucks that so many medical issues come up during the holidays.

In other news, stitchfix has been getting me some very fashionable clothes recently. I picked out 15 outfits each from Saks for my wife and I, but so far stitchfix has done a better and cheaper job of dressing us. We're returning a lot of the Saks stuff and keeping stitchfix.

Also the 6 week heartbeat check of our second child via surrogacy went well on Friday.

Christmas was rough last year, sure. In a few days it's the anniversary of the death of a friend of mine: He was a doctor who got put under so much stress due to Covid, working too many odd shifts, overwrought by the system, had an induced psychotic episode. Thought he had to sacrifice himself to save the human race, took a swan dive off a 45 storey building. To compound the tragedy, his family received the news shortly after that he passed his last speciality exam to become a trainee neurologist.

More like a militaristic metaphor. Psychotic episodes, of course, are total breaks with reality and by definition don't tend to make much sense, but in his mind it was more like jumping on a grenade or running into gunfire to save the human race. Very tragic, and not just the family's loss either. He had tremendous potential as a neurologist and a scientist, and they consider it the entire world's loss.

Definitely. Going balls out this year since I haven't seen my wider family or celebrated a Christmas in two years. I'll write the last word of my PhD thesis right before Christmas as well, so I doubt there's been a bigger occasion in my life to hit the turps.
