I waited 2 weeks after my chlamydia/gonorrhea test and it was negative but obviously bacterial infections show up much faster on a test.

Testing every 3-6 months is ideal because anything will have shown up by then
HIV isn't the scariest one, Syphillis is due to how mimics 50 other things(cured by a single Penicillin injection inside the first year)
Make sure you get both an FTA-ABS & RPR w/ reflective-titer
I wouldn't worry about your exposure, STI's aren'tthatcommon and the UK is a small place
For most things you'd notice symptoms within a couple of weeks
