Turkey is processed. Shipping to and from the processors is now more expensive. Labor is more expensive as well because the processers are facing labor shortages. Corn and soybean costs are also up. Pretty much everyone is having these issues.

They steadfastly refuse to allow their product to be sold outside the state but I'm nearby and that's one of those states that I DO VISIT occasionally. I think of this as the "21st Century Coors"*** equivalent. BUTTTT...they're all so much better than Coors, lol.

The can claims that's because it's "a pain in the @#% to brew" LOL! I "discovered" this TRUE micro-brewery on the November part of my trip to New Jersey (actually northern Maine to Washington DC), heading home toward Chicago. Rather surprising to see their beer in cans, because their entire brewery is three refrigerator-sized vats, and something as "micro" as that isn't usually bottled or canned.

Spotted Cow and Fat Tire (in that sequence) are my two favorite beers so far, but the EXTREME vast majority of beers out there have not been explored by me.

I actually WAS able to get an organic turkey in a tiny supermarket chain that has only three stores (two in Ann Arbor, one here in Chicago), though. Interesting that it cost significantly less than yours, gachase21; I think it was like $46 (before sales tax, so more like $51; we're at 10.25% here) for 13-pounds-and-change. Plum Market is rather inconvenient here, more than six miles south and driving almost to The Loop (a/k/a downtown).

And, the trip I took Out East in October and November (31+ days), I saw every bit as many trucks on the highway as I've ever seen in the past. I think that Interstate 80 (the part in extreme NW Indiana, to the Chicago exit), if not THE busiest in the U. S., at least comes close to being the busiest truckin' corridor. It seems paradoxical to me that there are so many supply issues, and yet apparently no fewer trucks than there should be? Or, are these trucks often running with smaller loads than usual? A ttucker would probably need to answer this...

I wish, that's the domain of a more typical geneticist. Mine is far more abstruse and theoretical, but when I combine what I earn from adjunct lecturing and teaching with my stipend I actually earn the equivalent of a solid middle-class wage and I don't even work full time.

Yeah we have been playing all year and during a good part of 2020. It was shut down along with all gyms for a couple of months, though. We started back at like the end of the summer and fall beginning 2020 once things reopened.

We consider the other players part of family and assume our risk. We had to wear masks, though, which is pretty unpleasant doing Judo and pretty ridiculous considering what we're doing...but that is the law in my county.

Got promoted this year, so one more level of brown after my current rank before shodan. I had been at my level for a long time so had enough points...but usja has also had a whole controversy with finances and elections so lucky it still exists tbh.

I've been doing a Japanese Jiu-jitsu sort of like aikido after judo for a while which is some horrendously rude wristlocks and illegal Judo stuff.

Attendance for that was too low so now after judo I'm doing karate. Haven't done that since I was a kid and I'm terrible at it lol.

No idea when local tournaments are coming back for judo. I probably have a few more good shiai in me, but over the next 5 years or so will be transitioning to judo kata and just getting old.

Thinking about getting one of those stretching machines, too. My flexibility is pretty good for just anyone, but compared to the karate people it's not that great.

I refurbished my throwing knife target after...eh. 2 years or so? Idk. Sort of near the beginning of covid I made this, and finally the black part which is the end grain target part started to split and lose pieces. Put it back together, restained, and got a new, replaceable end grain target part.

The black part was originally supposed to be replaceable but I screwed it in instead of using boltsand they stripped.



It tears up too easily using tomahawks, and need to make something out of just the endless supply of pine rounds which are in this area for that throwing practice.

I also got one of these to see how well they would work instead of the Smith and Wesson ones you can get at a sporting store...they work A LOT better. They're a lot more expensive, but so much better for instinctive throwing (where you try to stick the knife any distance rather than at certain paces based on rotation)



It's been a fun covid hobby to pick up...

Had a fever a few days ago that peaked at around 103. Tested negative for covid. Fever lasted less than 36 hours. It's been quite a few years since I've gotten a fever, but I don't remember ever kicking it that fast. Weird.

Times are tough these days; very tough. My mom has worsening Parkinson's and we're caring for her at home and my dad has a long list of health problems and has surgery for colorectal cancer in the am that I'm taking him to in the morning so I'm stressed as hell about that right now. His brother died last year from an MI during what should have been a basic prostate surgery so that has us extra worried right now. Every day I ask myself if I should be debating politics at this forum and how it fits into all the other serious crap in my life. I often get angry/frustrated at political BS and then ask myself is it really that important compared to my IRL problems I have going on.

I'm a worry wort yes I am.

I'm sorry to hear about your family health issues, Luke. Take care of yourself and don't let it overwhelm you. If venting about politics here is a release then by all means do what you need to do to. Don't forget that you do have to take care of yourself and prioritize your own mental health in order for you to help others, so don't let the stress drive you to unhealthy outlets. -keep yourself as fit and sharp as possible
-stay well groomed
-make sure your room is clean, and make sure their house is clean
-wear dress shoes, slacks, and a button up shirt daily
-walk around with a commanding presence to give the comfort of others around you- you own the situation

Monitor you’re outward expressions and display care with confidence.

I'll be joining the misc dad's crew in 6 months. Wife is pregnant with a baby boy. Avoided daughters.gif for now, but we do want another child or two in the future so if it happens it happens.

All joking aside, having a daughter is probably awesome as well
