Im surprised sometimes by how little some american miscers earn. Saw tha tthread before of some miscer late 20s or 30s cant rememeber still on like 15usd an hr.

I rarely know anyone who isnโ€™t a manager who makes more than $200-250K in SF. And that 2 bedroom shack is more like $1.2 million.

The $20min wage is in aud dollars. But in Aus barely anyone is on min wage besides students and old people.

Average wage is like $90k aud a year, which is about $65k usd. Thats average tho which means a LOT earns way more than that.

Highly skilled people will earn more in the US tho.

A decent chunk of it is paper-based increases in the value of the housing stock

Unless youโ€™re routinely bringing new houses or investment properties to market, itโ€™s not really a wealth increase - because itโ€™s the family home and you canโ€™t sell it without having to buy back in at the same price to maintain your position.

However wealth inequality is much less here and of course we have actual government services and healthcare.

Also we have had a history of strong labour unionism so our workforce doesnโ€™t routinely get bent over and pounded raw by corporate employers like workers in USA. In addition to a living wage we have workplace standards and enterprise bargaining rules.

yea, i dont think florida was the lowest either. it's now up to 10/ hr

just looked up the median income for single income in u.s. in 2015 it was 31, 133

but at 7.25 that meant in australia the lowest of the low were making 2x as much than in florida. guess there could be a discrepancy on what is considered lowest of the low as well. highly doubted that it scaled linearly from there too

tbh I didn't check how it is calculated, just looked at the table and saw Belgium on 4 lol

housing market is on an all-time high atm here, so for young people today it's getting harder and harder to become homeowners

I bought my house 9 years ago when the market was already quite high, never would've thought at the time that in retrospect I would turn out to be "lucky" lmfao

in general Flanders is still a lot wealthier than Wallonia so Flanders alone would've probably made top-3

Inb4 cope, but I think wealth is relative. For instance, I bring home about 70k a year. I quit a job where I was bringing home about 120k a year so I could be in the ministry. Most of what I make is from being wounded by an IED, so itโ€™s disability. I consider that retirement.

I have a house that is worth close to 500k now and is 3100+ sq ft, gated community. I live in a very low cost of living place, south Mississippi. I have a 2020 Dodge Durango SRT and a 2008 Silverado that is my beater basically. I have a lot of money in savings, but if you went by my โ€œtaxableโ€ income, Iโ€™d legit be at poverty level. I am nowhere near poverty with my lifestyle though. I could go anywhere, do anything or live almost anywhere in the world.
