PlayStation Plus Doled Out Games Worth More Than $1,400 in 2021
PlayStation Plus is no stranger to criticisms when it comes to its monthly games lineup, but the past year has been particularly rough in terms of PlayStation 5 offerings and upgrade paths (or lack thereof). However, from a purely monetary standpoint, the service has proven to be a bargain for subscribers who received more than $1,400 worth of video games in 2021.
That’s according to folks over at Polygon, who went through the painstaking process of analyzing each month’s lineup to figure out what the offered games cost at retail (PlayStation Store prices at the time of publication) and what their average review scores are. PlayStation Plus doled out 40 games over the course of the year with an average Metacritic score of 73.8 and a retail total of $1,424.60. The games were $35.62 a piece on average with an average age of 1.4 years.
The oldest game offered was the 6.5-year-old Mortal Kombat X, which was part of the October lineup, followed by the 3.8-year-old PlayStation VR game Farpoint (March lineup). Not counting day-and-date launches of titles like Destruction AllStars and Hunter’s Arena: Legends, the newest games offered were Remnant: From the Ashes and Knockout City (0.5-years-old each). The best-reviewed game in any lineup was Final Fantasy VII Remake with a Metacritic score of 87. The worst-reviewed game was Tennis World Tour 2 with a Metacritic score of 56.
Overall, five of the games were published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and three of the games (all day-and-date launches) were console exclusives. After SIE, Electronic Arts was the publisher with most titles offered via PlayStation Plus, but all of EA’s games were available on EA Play prior to appearing on Sony’s subscription service.

When I was subbed to PS+ the only game I actually played from it was Wipeout and Nioh.

i download the games every month but mostly dont play them.
also the normal rate is 60 a year i think. they always have sales where its like 40 a year. its decent but they are overplaying it saying its worth 1400, like fuk it is because that is a bunch of games you would never play and prob counting for multiple systems. that was also a good deal if you had more than one sony system, like ps3 or ps vita when they were still going.

Getting Uncharted, Gravity Rush, and Wipeout for free when I bought my Vita back in late 2012 was a great haul.
Hopefully their gamepass clone attempt will make me want to resub because despite all this supposed "value" there's only a few games from the last couple year I would want at all and almost all of them I bought before they hit plus.

But you are completely right, his comment is meaningless and adds nothing to the conversation like usual. You can't compare Xbox GamePass and PS+ really as they are two different things, and like I said Xbox Live is a shell of what it once was since GamePass came out.
A year of PS+ is constantly on sale for $30 and you can stack them so when you see it for $30 or less just buy a few. No reason to be paying more than that.
And I don't think Vita and PS3 games were part of the equation at all in 2021, just PS4, PS5, as far as I am aware. See graphic above as an example. It's pretty simple math they break down in the article.

to be fair, that amount is probably based off the inflated discount advertized on the ps store at the time the games are free (e.g. they wkll advertize the free game discount based on the full price of the game , wgen that game would have already had a price drop and been on sale many times.).
not complaining though.i got my money's worth several times over with ps+. this month is juicy too

I don't understand this metric. Games with Gold is probably on par if you're just totaling retail prices of games when they were launched.
Game Pass is easily well beyond this pricing using the same metrics but it doesn't really mean anything. By the time UC3 came to PS+, it was a $5 bargain bin game.
