Why are we expected to tip for everything now?

When did this become natural behavior to force someone to tip? Tipping used to be for going into restaurants, ordering delivery, getting a haircut, etc.

Now I’m ask if I want to tip when going through the drive through or placing an order online for pickup (not even carside delivery).

I kid you not, tried to place an order online at BWW for some wings, and it wouldn’t let me pay unless I included a tip.

Covid made it even worse. I feel the restaurants feel they’d deserve even more of a tip because they were struggling. Currently I still tip 10 percent for pickup though

the kitchen staff have always gotten a tip % in most places so its ok to tip somewhat on pickup, but aint no 15-20% tip happening

Since so many places use Square for payment it’s always going to be a tip request. For service like in a restaurant, I tip very well usually 20% minimum higher is amazing service. Then it’s 10% for basic pickup because it’s barely a couple of bucks usually.

Went to a local-owned small market near me to show my GF, got a few items, the fukking register was on Apple square pay or whatever where they swing the tablet around for you to sign. They had the fukking nerve to have the tip option on there with 20, 25, and 30 percent as the default options. Laughed and hit "no tip." Fukkers.

This is only a thing in cucked countries where businesses expect their staff to rely on the charity of strangers rather than the business paying a living wage

I happily tip well at small Mom & Pop shops, they work hard and provide great service (usually), large chains... meh, they all kind of suck, not the server's fault but you need to earn my money there.

I used to be extremely generous with tipping, but I'm starting to see more and more people with their hands out so I've cut it completely off. I'll tip restaurants but as minimal as possible.

Anyone else asking for donations get zero from me.

Be careful bro. Offending people on the internet is against the law down under. Don't want to end up in a camp.
Section 474.17 of the Criminal Code makes it an offence to use a carriage service such as the Internet in a manner which reasonable persons would regard as menacing, harassing or offensive.
Miscing is truly a rebellious act down there. Stay safe.

I tip for deliveries and service, depending on how good the service was. If a driver messes up the delivery and is lazy, I'll remove the tip.

I can't stand those Square devices at a counter where theydefault to a 15% tip for simply taking your order.

Businesses try to suck every penny out of their consumers pockets. The worst is going to the fast food joint and asking to round up your tip for charity. Mf Im not trying to fund your tax writeoffs

Simple.
This was always my philosophy but times are changing now boyo. If I go pick it up and ordered online, that means I’m tipping someone to put my food in a bag and hand it to me.

When I go to restaurants I always tip 20% unless the service/food was really good, then I’d do 25-30%. Same with haircuts.. if they take their time and actually do a clean job = good tip.

But now I’m forced to tip before there is any service provided, dumb as hell.

Moral of the story - time to cook all my meals

no fking idea why they ask for a tip when you're getting takeout. "Hey so we made the burrito you paid for. Want to leave a tip?"

I still tip, but tipping is such a scam. Brb paying someone for doing their job. We should be tipping our mailman or trash guy. They are more important. As good and free as America is. It's not actually free but gives u an illusion that's free when it's not.

This. There is a neighborhood family owned pizza/sports bar and local diner that I frequent regularly. Not only is the service better but the food is better than any chain. Also tip my barber pretty well.

but at least in the restaurant industry people don't work for tips; rather theyexpecttips. If you buy a $400 bottle of wine the person who carried the bottle over deserves $100 as a result. That's where we are at, and that's why a lot of people won't tip any more.

Hey, they put it in a bag with napkins and handed it to you. Surely that deserves at least a 25% tip.

Yeah tipping for someone to cash you out is pretty dumb imo.
Umm I just entered your order, gave you a receipt and slid a bag across a counter and you’re not gonna even tip?!

Eh percentages are stupid, I only use % as a very rough guideline and tip $ by service/effort.
