Goku's naive and has enough power to rule entire dimensions but lives like a peasant and deals with typical problems of family life. Kinda akin to Spider-Man always being a bad arse genius but always a teen/twenty-something at the poverty level. Or Super Man being a god but isn't super rich and has a normalish job when he's not saving lives. They do this to appeal to normies. On a side note, I've always thought Hancock was kinda a funny but somewhat more realistic super hero in modern era, brb a drunk with an attitude, wrecks chit and gets blamed for damages even though he stopped criminals and saved lives. Goku just kinda brawned his way into his power, essentially gifted it by karma and higher beings lol just because he felt super emotional about saving other people or the planet.

This definitely seems like Vegeta's purpose ever since the Freeza sega. The only times Vegeta got stronger than Goku IIRC were when he went into the hyperbolic time chamber with Trunks, before Goku did, in the Cell Saga. And MAYBE Majin Vegeta before Goku tapped into SSJ3. Short of another babidi / mind control / clone kinda situation, even if Vegeta got stronger than Goku in Super, he wouldn't have a serious fight - to the death - with Goku anymore, respects him too much now.

I think one of the big things was Vegeta was always full of himself, pompous, prince of all Saiyans, huge ego, thought himself superior to everyone, when he was merely born into his situation and had better genetics and training than most folks. He had to face reality after losing to Goku in the Saiyan sega, and after acknowledging Goku unlocking Super Saiyan in Freeza sega. Freeza is like a copy paste of this. Born under King Cold, royalty, amazing genetics, and more than any other species (even Saiyans), didn't need to train even a little bit to be at near super-saiyan level. Then the running joke continues and he trains a LITTLE bit unlocking Super Saiyan God level powers in Dragonball Super.

Used to be Vegeta crew from Dragon Ball Z to Dragon Ball Super. Then I recently re-watched Dragon Ball Z since it’s been 20+ years since I’ve seen it and realized Vegeta was a selfish, sadistic POS especially when he killed off Nappa, a loyal father figure to him. Now I’m Bardock crew all day after the newest Broly movie. Wish they would develop Bardock more.

Beerus also says in the very beginning of Dragonball Super that he had a "harder" time fighting Vegeta on the yacht than the did fighting Goku on Kai's planet. They mention while Chichi was being her usual bitch self forcing Goku to be a fail-farmer, Vegeta was doing his usual no life training routine and did actually surpass Goku at that point in time.

The biggest problem is they won't letanycharacter other than Goku be the hero who kills the main bad guy. There's incredibly rare exceptions, but that's the biggest issue. Resurrection F was absolutely the easiest example of this, Vegeta comes in and nerf's Freeza at the very end, FINALLY getting the kill he always wanted and deserved, only for the show to go "lol nope, time warp, now Goku has to save the planet and kill Freeza instead".

Vegeta had some of the best character development in Super out of anyone (opposed to Goku who somehow regressed to his child Dragonball levels of immaturity and intelligence... wtf). I just wish they'd make Vegeta's strength and training more meaningful to the actual story. It's all pop and no punch right now, he just gets stronger and it means nothing ultimately lol...

This would have been a very interesting direction to take the writing. They wouldn't have even needed to make Vegeta into a villain again or anything for this to work, since they all spar together constantly and enter those fighting tournaments together. Just have arcs where some characters occasionally pull ahead of others... Hell, they could even have the #1 and top fighter still be Goku, but good lord just OCCASIONALLY pass the torch lol.

Make Piccolo relevant again.

I usually don't root for the main character in most shows/anime because everyone likes them so Gohan was my dude. Vegeta was cool too probably my third or second fav alternating with Trunks but DBZ would never let him truly shine.

I always thought Goku was kind of a Mary Sue, always the perfect do-gooder that sorta lacked any real complexity. Vegeta, although he's a dick, he isn't just some evil bad guy, misguided, but often has his heart in the right place. He was just a far more interesting and complex character IMO.

Plus, he got the best girl and the cooler son.

Honestly that whole "redemption" thing with Vegeta in this saga was retarded lol. It's entirely because of him Boo was allowed to be revived in the first place, he killed a bunch of people for the lulz, went to the dark side just for "moar power", which is a weak cope in the first place relying on some artificial bullchit rather than his own training to try matching up to Goku.

Then he needlessly knocks out Goku after their fight rather than teaming up with him to fight fat Boo as soon as he was released... The intro to that saga is Vegeta at his weakest, character wise, IMO.

Vegeta fan for sure. Goku just way too vanilla. Even liked Gohan and Trunks more



But I was a loser growing up so think I liked guys like Vegeta who were over the top tough and badass, even if it was an act and they get their **** kicked in later. Also played sonic games when younger and liked Shadow who’s the same type of character
