Bought a Telluride awhile back, right before they really took off (although it was nigh-impossible to find one even then, June 2020ish). So far it's been a wonderful ride. No issues. Seats 6 comfortably. Good value

Motorsport is a very demanding application of automotive engineering which also allows direct comparison between other manufacturers. Producing a successful campaign shows the manufacturer has the engineering capability to compete at a high level in demanding applications and this often does trickle down into the product lineup: see Hyundai in wrc and Porsche in endurance racing.

Sure, nobody said automtive engineering isn't demanding, but nobody is going to put boat propellars on a car when the car doesn't need it. With comparison, manufacturers already do benchmarking with every car you can think of.

Certain brands do fine with motorsports but for brands like Lexus, leave that chit alone.

But, I'm just speaking from very little experience of what actually goes on in the manufacturing world. I plan on getting a more in depth tour of the manufacturing one of these days.

thats impossible to say. i dont care what consumer reports or jd power says about reliability, they do not reflect the real world. toyota reliability is almosy the stuff of legend. completely neglected corollas lasting 200k miles driven through floods, with a quart of oil and all original transmission fluid and still running fine.

Everytime I see one on the road Im tricked into thinking it’s an Audi or something until I get close to it. Can’t believe how far they’ve come in design and performance.

Would buy one if they’re priced below German luxury, and this is coming from a 1979 K10 pickup with a 383 stroker engine owner.

That's typically how I choose my cars. Acura, Honda, Lexus, Toyota crew. Always seem to be the oldest cars on the road and their interiors hold up as well.

Everyone has their reasons for buying luxury.

In the 2020’s we’re seeing pretty much every manufacturer pumping out cars with the exact same creature comforts that 10 years ago you would have only found in nicely optioned luxury brands. So the only real difference anymore is status and performance.

For me. I’m a gearhead and have always been into high performance cars, motorcycles and racing in general. So owning a fast car from the factory, by default meant that I had to buy a luxury brand.

Others however simply buy luxury for no other reason than because they can.

I own a bmw for their performance and racing heritage and the fact that I grew up racing them on Gran turismo and forza and seeing them in magazines just dying to have one when I grew up.

If I could comfortably afford certain models of lambos, Porsches or Ferraris I would buy them for the same reason. The implied Status means absolutely nothing to me.
