Bumpers are useful if you want a something extra to help protect your floor. If you do olympic lifting, or drop the bar from overhead, you'd definitely need them.
Otherwise there are a lot of nice looking cast plates out there. I know Rogue has a deep dish plate now.

If you guys have bumper plates that have a chip in them how do you quickly calculate how much it still weighs without walking them over to the scale?

I want a uesaka bar badly but trying to find out more about the radiation scare.

Anyone ever test their Uesaka barbells for radiation? Saw this post on wl forums and it kind of made me concerned.
“Just a heads up, I was working with Joe on a quote and almost pulled the trigger on a Uesaka bar; however the company replied that they have no interest in testing their bars for radiation. The radiation following the Fukushima disaster is ongoing and radiation is not only being detected as far south as Tokyo, but it's turning up in goods, including vehicles, and in scrap metal shipments. My local fire department said they would test the bar for me, but I decided to avoid the hassle. The Uesaka factory is only 130km from Fukushima and they get their steel west of there. “

I learnt the hard way to always get plate protectors.
The result of going without protection is mangled plates after going through the car wash.
