How To Mount Tv ? (Srs) (Tradies and Handymen Gtfo)
I never had a drill but have had a wall mount sitting around forever and want to install in our bedroom.
So I did some research and bought one. Along with a stud finder.
I used it on the wall and (THINK) I found some studs/drilling locations but apparently when I turn on the metal detector mode, It blinks like crazy throughout the wall.
So I heard that it means the studs are metal studs and have to be treated differently?.
Also paranoid to not drill into wires or pipes as well and cause $1000s in damages.
How to proceed and know if its safe to drill and install? Srs

Couple basic tips
- Use common sense to where water pipes are. Is the opposite room a bathroom/kitchen? If there is then I have no idea how to navigate that. All my wall mounts were in non water pipe areas.
- use the stud finder from the left side and mark the leftmost edge of the stud. Then from the right side to mark the rightmost edge.
- use a very thin nail and lightly hammer it in to see if you hit the stud at all. Nail it in a few times, moving horizontally to try to find the center of the stud. You want your screws to go into the center of the studs ideally
Take all that with a grain of salt, I’m no expert

Get 3.3m length of 45x90 of timber, cut it in half put a lot of liquid nails on the back of each length. Get a framing gun and shoot it into wall then get your 600mm stabila level out to make sure the timber is level and then get some 150mm batton screws andnscrew your TV mount in and hang TV

is tradyism hurting your brain?
if its metal stud you may need toggle bolt. it's like a butterfly thing you insert into the hole and then it open up beyond the hole and gets caught

The key to finding studs is patterns. If the detector goes off at regular 16 or 24 inch intervals it is likely a stud. The key to not damaging electrical and plumbing in the walls is to control the depth you drill to. These things should be set in the center of a 4 or 6 inch metal stud wall and if you ensure that you are only drilling 3/4" max depth then you should be fine. go slow. If you're in a newer apartment and it's a metal stud then you need butterfly anchors or toggle bolts to hold the tv mount on the wall. you could also use these fasteners in the drywall but I personally wouldn't trust that.

use a wood drill bit
drill through some trash 2x4 piece to know what it supposed to feel like
that way you'll know if you are hitting a pipe
as long as you found studs correctly, I wouldn't sweat it. if you hit metal, you'll know

I bought a kit off of amazon yesterday that comes with a titanium drill bit, anchors and washers for metal studs.
once that comes, I guess I can risk it.

Does anyone want to just come mount my tv for me? I have to move it on and off the stand in my living room cause my cats will knock it over. Where I want it mounted is the back side of my upper hanging kitchen cabinets, it’s 65 inches

1. get a magnet
2. slide the magnet all over the wall until you find a nail and the magnet sticks
3. confirm that this is a stud by moving the magnet ONLY up or down from that point. if you have multiple sticking points with the magnet then you're on a stud and you can drill

studs are 16" apart op. and idk what kind of space you live in, but i can almost assure you that there wont be any hvac/plumbing pipe or electrical wiring in your bedroom or living room walls, just insulation.
get a level, level it out, pre drill, and screw that bitch in there. do people actually call a guy out for stuff like that?

Most drywall is 1/2" or 5/8" and most horizontal electrical runs are near CL (leaving you with D/3 of space between your Edge of Stud and Edge of hole), which leaves you 1-1 1/2" of meat on the 2x4 before you run into wiring (note, this is usually closer to the floor, ~24"). A 1-5/8" length screw will keep you safe, provided your house isnt botched up/super old. Cant comment what to do with a metal stud since most of my experience is in wood materials.
