Reminder: House values have NOT a increased…

…it’s just the value of your money has reduced

If you have to hand over more of your dollars for the exact same house then all that’s happened is that the purchasing power of your money has reduced.

Good news if you had debts though, the nominal value of the debt is the same but in real terms it has been significantly reduced.

Spoiler!
There has been very little in the way of productivity improvements, the overall quality of the housing stock has not improved, fundamental shifts in long-term underlying supply or demand, to justify any change to fundamentals. Even the desire for larger homes as a result of WFH doesn’t justify 30-50% price jumps.

hmm yeah i remember back in 2000 for $100 you could get a whole shopping trolley full of stuff at whoolies, now you need at least 300 for the same.

A $150k apartment now costs like 500k so yeah i think the value of housing has increased, it isn't just inflation.

The housing stock is just a product - an output of capital and labour - like any other.

The fact that central banks tend to not fully recognise house prices in official inflation figures or “underlying” inflation just shows you how rigged the system is

If only the baseline wages had increased with inflation, that would work out.

Wages have to catch up for this system to work out. You can't sell the home and buy a cheaper one, and rents have gone up to offset inflation and increases.

True but if you owned multiple properties there has been good opportunities to take a nominal (but substantial) profit in dollar terms

If you only owned one property that you lived in you gained zero

Printing money doesn’t have a direct effect on the economy

The same quantity of goods and services get produced

It just increases the divide between workers and owners of capital

Basically they’re robbing wage earners and transferring wealth to asset owners

True, you haven't gained vs the market, but you've gained quite a bit compared to rentcels.
