Well done me

Edit 2: At least my net income can support it after taxes/457b/403b and all that good stuff

I reno'd a house and moved across the country this year so normally my home spending wouldn't be $40k, closer to $15k or so and I'd imagine a lot of the Uncategorized and Other spending is related to those two things as well.

Mogged by above guy

I spent 36% of my take home pay. Of that 36%, 18% was bills/utilities, remaining 18% was food and hobbies.

If you say so, looks like I had a $37k surplus after maxing out my 403b and 457b. Guess it wasn't a bad year after all.

Max contribution is $19,500 per account, so $37k but sure carry on with that. I'll make sure to reflect on this post when I'm sitting on a beach drinking a beer at 50 (since 457b can be taken without penalty whenever you leave employment, not 59.5) never having to work again.

Doesn't even count my employers 10% matching.

agreed - I have my retirement plan in place, so if theres something I want I just buy it. Probably should cut back, but as long as you have a retirement plan in place I see that its all good. Its the idiots who spend every penny AND dont have a penny for retirement that are F'd.

Congrats, I'll hit that number a bit before 50 which is why I picked 50 as the retirement age.

That's just retirement though, doesn't count real estate investments, after tax investment, or any of that stuff.

Imagine getting this rustled at other people's spending and investing habits.

Ok then I guess.

Anyways it's easy to spend money if you don't budget. The average american household spends a tad over $61k a year but only makes $65k a year so your point stands there.
