That prompted me to get back in the gym. I kept wondering why the better shape I got in, I still felt terrible. Suffered extreme fatigue. I could sleep for 12 hours and still be falling asleep in the middle of the day. Some other symptoms also, but I never suffered any sexual sides. Dr finally tested my hormones and we figured it out. TRT is not magic anything, unless you are suffering symptoms, and then it can give you your normal life back.Blast or trt? Either way that’s like top 0.1% for ppl your age, gj dude. Pic of me at 18 and at 21

I worked out till my mid 20s and missed about a decade. Stayed stocky but was about 30lbs over weight. First day back in the gym could still bench 300lbs and my first squat day I put on 405 for the hell of it. Yes stupid.
First pic is me out of shape and then next pic is a years progress after I dropped the extra fat.

Being 'non nattie' for me is something I fully disclose. But I have been what most people would say is very conservative. I am on script and have bumped a few times. 100% truth, I could not even tell. Maybe I just am not willing to do enough, but I never could handle losing strength or size, so I have gone about this continuing to train like I am nattie.
It has made a difference. I would say over the past 7 years I have been able to be about 10lbs heavier WHILE being lean. But this is 7 years apart. Nattie me top, and last year below

One last one. Me at 21 and 47 26 years apart. I had much better aesthetics when I was younger. All my training was power based so I am much more blocky in the waist now. It is only the last few years I have decided to just be more lean and not chase lifting heavy weight.

More like 9 years but here we go. I started exercising cuz I was really fat. I slimmed down, tried to bulk, got even fatter. It was an up and down struggle for years. Failed a lot, learned from my mistakes, propped myself back up. I've learned a lot in the past decade.

@op was your skin was much better (less acne/bumps, smoother, etc) when natty? Or is it the bad lighting+getting older? Obv a silly question since it's a 10 year difference between pics but it's usually easy to see who's not natty a gym from the reddish skin + bumps etc, yet some people swear it makes 0 difference.
I had a good bit of bumps on my upper back, but mostly legs for some reason..

I have spent the last 7 years getting steadily leaner. In the right light, I am almost grainy lean since my sub-q has been low for so long.@op was your skin was much better (less acne/bumps, smoother, etc) when natty? But I have seen what you mean about the beet red looking dudes. I think that is people who are gassed to the hilt. I am a hairy dude. Italian heritage to thank for that. I trim my back, shoulders and chest. In the winter I get ingrown hairs. In the summer, if I get in the sun I dont get them. But no skin issues. If I did not have the gray hair most people think I am 10 years younger.
Here is a pic from the summer with a little color on me in the same lighting.

I have too many injuries to train for strength the last few years. But I have still not really done any iso stuff, besides skull crushers and preacher curls. Rest of my workouts are always multi-joint. BIG fan of standing OHP for shoulder development also.
Frankly I dont buy most of what people promote. As a nattie, I trained like guys did in the 40's and 50's. I trained for strength. Either do more reps with same weight over time, or add weight. The most critical part of that was to also be eating for your goals. That is where most people fail. I believe that, if there are gains to be had, that if you are not gaining at least 1/2 lb per week, you are wasting your time. The scale MUST move to make progress after year 3-4 in the gym. Recomping is just stupid and a waste of time. I have gained and lost 100's of lbs. My first 5 years back in the gym, there was never 2 weeks where I weighed the same. I was either eating a 250cal surplus, or 750cal deficit. I would run surplus cals 4-5 months and see the scale shift approx 30 lbs. Including glycogen and water shift. Then I would reverse for 12 weeks and start over.
It was fuking hard. But it is the only way to continue progress after a certain point. Once I realized I cant make any more progress, even as a non nattie for what I was willing to do, I just decided to 'stay in shape'. I no longer eat up and down. But my workouts now are not how I built my physique. My training now is like a pu$$y compared to how I used to train. I can maintain size and strength on very little now. Being the strongest is no longer important to me, and I just look to enjoy life these days. Stay fit and be healthy.

At 42 I was just starting my several year obsession with trail ultramarathon running that led to me doing several marathons and ultramarathons each year through my mid 40s. I probably weigh just over 80kg (176lb) in this pic

In my late 40s I had some injuries and couldn't run for 2-3 years. Gained weight, partially compensated by getting into weights, and was looking pretty good for a while ...
Spoiler!
But then for some reason I went a bit softer in 2021. Probably close to 87kg (190lb) here at age 52.

I am just a normal dude. Never take the middle class out of me. I still cut my own grass and I feel guilty buying a $4 coffee.
I will say, that the years I spent in my early 20's being willing to work as hard as I did, set me for the rest of my life. I am lazy compared to the drive I had as a younger guy. By 29 I was doing pretty darn well and by my early 30 I had FU money. But like I said, almost dying at 34 years old, I switched up my priorities. Less is more for me. I dont want the rat race and what comes with it. I am lucky enough to live on my own terms, but I dont want the sacrifice required to chase MOAR. Happy with enough, and a great life balance.
But I look back and I am proud of the drive I had as a younger guy.

I feel like I could have pulled a lot more, but I was running into over use injuries. I think I would have hit those same numbers naturally. Like I said, I have never taken anything or an amount of something that I have seen an increase in strength or a decrease when I stopped.what were your peak natty lifts?

s b d
I think the biggest thing that harmed my strength was getting lean over and over. And doing it to ever lower numbers of bf. A great example is early in my return to the gy after a decade off, I was 185lbs and probably 15%bf, I could bench 315x8 which is just under a 400lb bench. Putting in vids just so some that might think I talk out of my a$$, but most know I am not going to tell bs stories. So this was at a time where I had low T and did not know yet. Just me working out at home.
Over the next 4 years, I got my bodyweight up to about 200lbs @10% so about a 20lb gain. But the most I ever could bench 315 for was 12. Which was a 420 comp bench.
So I was stronger when I kept my bt above 15% range. Over the years I would always cut down to right around 10%. Eventually, I realized how much strength it cost me. Strength that I would not gain back even if I let my BR drift up. Heaviest I ever was on a bulk was 235 and I just thinking dieting off all the intramuscular fat over years led to where my strength to weight went down significantly.
But being leaner and holding mass is where I do feel being non-nattie has helped me. I feel like I am 10 lbs heavier that I could ever hold at 10% bf or less. As a nattie, I would shed mass like crazy as I dipped below 10%. Now I stay close to 10% all the time. At 10% I am about 205. With carb bloat I can carry 210 pretty good. Still have abs at 215 and they start to blend at 220. I feel best at 205 so that is where I stay.

Every cut cycle, I get slightly more lean. I find it a bit uncomfortable, though. It's nice being full of glycogen and not constantly depleted and flat.
