Yes Brady was just a spectator on those teams. Definitely didn’t have to do anything but chill and watch his team win

Good point

You do realize this was the last time Rodgers touched the ball, right? It was 3rd and 11 the Packers punted and the 49ers won the game on the next drive. A completion to Lazard would have literally won the game.

LMAO. Who cares if the Packers were actually FAVORED to win though?

Bro I'm not necessarily subscribing to the idea that he's a choker, I'm just pointing out that what you stated about "most of the games being on the road" (6 were on the road, 4 were at home) and the Packers being "significant underdogs" in most of them (they were actually favored in 4 of the games and only underdogs by a touchdown or more in 3 of them)--is factually incorrect.

I don't see how this is aaron rodgers choking when JimmyG literally didn't have a single TD on the board. Quite literally all of the blame should be put on GreenBay special teams' linemen. The gimme field goal for the win, and a simple punt blocked and return for a TD was the opening and closing of this game. Not sure how this is even remotely on rodgers.

So if George Kittle catches the pass from Jimmy and likely scores on it instead of dropping it earlier...then would it be Rodgers choking?

The whole chocking thing is overblown but it's Aaron Rodgers. All he talked about was "we need to get one of these games at home" when interviewed after the 2019 season loss to the 49ers. Well he got one.

His offense put up 10 points with the 49ers missing one of their starting CBs for the game.

Garoppolo was also playing with a ****ed up thumb and shoulder on the road. I see guys making excuses for him on the missed read on the 3rd and 11 throw to Adams into double coverage and Garoppolo gets shredded for stuff like that. Rodgers has been in the league for how long? 49ers were stopping Adams for the bulk of the 2nd half. That should be a fairly easy read for a guy of his caliber.

It's not all on him but his defense played their ass off...you know what prevents a punt block from happening? Not having to punt. You know what prevents a FG from being blocked? Scoring a TD.

He definitely played a part in the loss and brushing it off as if he put up 500 yards and 5 TDs in a loss is pure cope.

The Rodgers cope ITT is hilarious.

B-b-b-but if this would have been different the Packers would have won.

B-b-b-but if Rodgers didn't play subpar in another postseason game the Packers would have won.

Just save a little time and say that.

It would have moved them to around midfield. They would have needed another 20 yards to get into fg range, and then given the packers special teams who already had a fg blocked… there was no guarantee it would be completed.

But you are right, game over. Only pass that mattered all game was 1 and he missed it.

If jones ran in a straight line after his catch instead of literally run at the defender, it probably would have been a TD. Otherwise, the packers ran out of time before half and had to kick the FG. It wasn’t because of the niners D on that drive.

Expecting your punt team to not get blocked and give up a TD isn’t too much to ask.

Bringing up injuries is pointless. The packers oline was makeshift and was abused all game. The #2 receiver was out and the #2 running back got hurt (in a game where running was the only effective way to move the ball given the elements). Both teams were dealing with injuries.

Obviously Rodgers deserves some of the blame, but when the thread is titled Rodgers choking, then I’m here to argue the opposite side. Choking would be consistently playing far worse than regular season- lower completion, more turnovers, bunch of bad reads, etc. Rodgers has top 5 playoff stats of all time, playing the bulk of those games on the road against elite ds (niners, Seahawks, etc).

Other QBs who are considered clutch have far worse playoff performances…

That is all.

I think the belief is a couple special teams gaffes shouldn't be the difference when you have the MVP QB playing against a #6 seed in Lambeau. Game should not have been close enough for these to matter.

Fwiw, he said post-game that he was very disappointed in his own individual play/effort.

Aside from GBs defensive line, the entire team played like shiet including the "mvp" say what you will but just from an outside perspective it seems like a ton of GB fans just flat out hate Rodgers for the way he carries himself acting like hes the smartest guy in the midwest

You Packers fans wanted proof that he choked. With the magnitude of the game, and the magnitude of that play, he absolutely choked. Had two guys wide open for long games and instead threw into double coverage.

The nfc was deep this year and the difference between #1 and #6 is trivial. The packers beat the niners on a last second fg during the season. With special teams giving the niners 10 this time around, it should be no surprise.

Interesting stats shown here.

Good lord… choking is now throwing 1 incompletion? My point was that Rodgers was accurate through the game, threw a high completion percentage despite tons of pressure, and didn’t turn it over. Choking would mean a terrible performance far below the regular season.

Did Brady choke last year in the nfc championship when he had a 3 possession lead and threw 3 ints? No? Because his d bailed him out he suddenly didn’t choke?

Imagine if his D had held the packers to 6 points

Probably doesn’t throw those 3 interceptions because they’re just running the ball after the big lead he’d already built up

ITT throwing 1 incompletion in a game is choking if you lose, but throwing 3 ints and winning means you are clutch.

That is all.
49ers have been playing without their top CB since week 1. Their 3rd round rookie who was a healthy inactive for early part of the year finally started finding his stride didn't even play in this game.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 225 yards all game, 75 of them came on that play to Jones. That play was 1/3 of his whole yardage on the day...a play which was a clear breakdown in the 49ers secondary.

What happened on the next play? Bosa sack/fumble where Packers were lucky to recover the ball. I guess Bosa doesn't play defense? You're making a strong assumption that had time not been an issue there that Rodgers gets more than FG attempt out of it.

Also MVS isn't your #2 WR. That's Lazard. You also got Cobb who was Aaron Rodgers' bff and someone who he forced the team to trade for. How did he do in the game?

Everyone deals with injuries. The reason I brought them up was to point that Rodgers being the HOF QB that he is should be able to do better than 10 points or even 13 points at home.

I'm not here to laugh at Packer fans or anything like that but I really don't understand the blind fight to defend the guy, especially when he's looking to walk away from your team.

I would switch Jimmy G for Rodgers in a split second but when it came down to it in crunch time...Jimmy G outplayed Aaron Rodgers which is not something you should be able to say if Aaron was without fault.

That's one thing that you guys knocking Brady for years failed to acknowledge. You won't always get top tier play from opening kickoff to end of the game but it's a team game so when you have the ability to close the game out or win the game at the end, regardless of how poorly you played before, some guys get it done a lot more than others.

Say what you want but Rodgers had his chance despite the blocked punt(once again, don't wanna punt...keep the drive going) and he failed to deliver. Garoppolo as poorly as he played early on made big throws in the end to get his team into position to make the game winning FG.

The game was 0 degrees and snowing in the second half. They showed multiple replays of the ball hitting wrs hands (both teams) or receivers slipping in their routes. The weather neutralized the passing attack for both teams and the pass rush was getting home for both teams. Neither QB had any time to pass on third and king when their run game failed them.

MVS is definitely #2 when healthy. Cobb was playing his first game in 2 months after coming back from core surgery. He is also a fossil who is going to retire. Lazard is a solid #3. They have nothing beyond them. Their too TE tore his acl. Their backup TEs suck.

These pathetic homer excuses are exactly why Packers deserved to lose. There's no more next guy ready like Rodgers was after Favre. So, get ready to do a lot more losing moving forward, cheesedicks.

Straight up...do you think Aaron Rodgers at home as the #1 seed facing the #6 seed, with a week's rest as the 49ers had 6 days to prep for the game, putting up 10 points is getting it done for one of the front runners for MVP?

I think if you answer that question honestly and without a million excuses you'll realize why this thread was made(minus the trolling part of it)

Scoring 10 points at home against the 6th seed when you’re the MVP with the #1 seeded team is choking

He should have done better, plain and simple

It's wild to see the lengths that both Rodgers and Brady homers go through on this board to defend them.

It’s fun to argue for arguments sake.

What the argument boils down to for Rodgers is typically theoreticals, but little to do with actual play by play analysis as to what could have been better.

On the contrary, with Brady it comes down to wins as opposed to being individual play.

When arguing what Rodgers could have done better given the circumstances, people have come up with 1 missed throw… yet Brady can complete <50% of his passes, throw multiple ints but if the team wins, he is clutch and not to be questioned.

Since we can’t even start on the same footing for the debate (Ie what is choking vs. what is good play), these threads always limp along.

I posted a Twitter link which compares Rodgers and Brady playoff performances since 2006 and Rodgers consistently plays better… but has more losses…

Well for arguments sake I'll play (I mentioned this in another thread too)

- Rodgers has not had great playoff success, not all attributed to his play. But given the situation - #1 Seed, leading MVP candidate, against a #6 in your home stadium, and arguable touted as one of the greatest QBs to ever play, 10 points is not enough. Yes there are layers to this, such as dropped balls, poor O-line play, RB fumbles ect, but when you are held to the status of Aaron Rodgers, more is expected of you. End of the day, Rodgers managed to lead his offense to 10 points.

- Now on to Brady. He played like trash for 3 quarters on Sunday. Blame whatever you want (pass rush, bad O-line play, WR drops), but again, you are regarded as the GOAT. He is expected to overcome his teams short comings. Enter the 4th quarter, Brady benefits from costly turnovers by the Rams..... fortunate, but he does what's needed. He puts up the points to tie the game. Some will argue the defense lost the game for Brady...... but if Brady had a better game early on, he wouldn't need to rely on his defense or turnovers.

For arguments sake, lets say Brady won that game after the 4th quarter comeback. The argument can be made that is a clutch performance. Clutch doesn't necessarily mean good, just means he got the job done when it needed to be done. Rodgers couldn't keep the chains moving resulting in a punt that ended up being blocked that changed the game.

I think it's fair to say Brady has had some fortunate breaks in big games that assisted with wins. Doesn't negate that his achievements. He's had some chitty breaks as well, such as David Tyree and Mario Manningham catches that prevented two rings. You can say he got lucky with the Malcolm Butler interception against the Hawks, but that was preceded by a Seattle WR (I forget who it was) making some miracle catch basically on his back.

Lots of hypotheticals like you said, but when it boils down to it, which QB are you taking in a big game? The guy with more god given talent/ability or the guy who has a proven history of winning those games?

I just see so many people vehemently defending their QB instead of just admitting "Yeah my QB didn't get it done"

I’ll take the better team, every time.

Historically, Rodgers needs to put up 36+ points and a 120 QBR to even be competitive in deep playoff runs. The margin of error is infinitely small. He led far worse teams to places they didn’t belong.

If you look at the tweet with graphs I posted earlier, Rodgers average playoff performance far surpasses Brady’s. The entire lowest 25% of performances were all Brady’s. How is that possible with him being such a great postseason QB? The stats just don’t support it unless you include team victories.

Well he’s had almost double the opportunities. Can’t all be great

And Erin has always been a stat padder. His preference to throw the ball away or take a sack rather than make a high risk high reward throw is undoubtedly part of the reason for his failure as a post season QB

ITT not turning the ball over is now a negative, despite >10 years of his career showing it has been incredibly successful…

I thought I’d seen it all but this takes the cake. Then the one time he takes a shot to his 1 good receiver on a third and long, he is criticized for it.
