Part of the US is 3rd world but it's easy to stay out of those areas. Pull out a map of election results county by county, stay in Red areas, life is good. (even blue states, the good areas are red, red states have blue areas which are the bad areas)

No metal detectors needed. Shooters shoot their way in through windows.

Security guards hide while the kids are shot.

Imagine believing sensationalist journalism. The reason for the charge is hidden in the article if you read more carefully - the nurse must be present and closely monitor, often because the new mother is shaky from the drugs they took for birth.

But real talk....the healthcare system is still a sh*tshow.

My serious thoughts in brief as an American, admirer of Europe, and student of history. As far as some things already mentioned go:
- Circumcision; I too wish this wasn't a widespread practice, however the "victims" aren't to blame, since it's inflicted on them with their having no bearing on something which will affect their entire adult lives. Strangely enough, there's not even a warrant for it in Christianity, so even within it as the dominant faith, there still shouldn't be a religious motive for it. One should remember, however, that basically the entire Muslim world practices this as well. It's not just the US and the Jewish diaspora.
- Wealth/standard of living comparisons; there are many salient points about European standards of living being more desirable in many cases, regardless of the prevalence of the degree of state sponsorship of basic needs relative to taxation levels, but it really needs to be remembered how much economic productivity Europe is enabled to devote to these domestic concernsbecausethe US so extensively protects its strategic security. If the US withdrew from the protection of Europe and fully embraced isolationism, many of these social guarantees would fall to the wayside almost immediately, I strongly suspect. European militaries are certainly not non-existent, but the NATO member states bask in the protection afforded by the United States and the cost savings this enables them for their welfare states to function lucratively.
- Gun rights; I am in favor of these and own multiple firearms. The vast majority of gun enthusiasts here are law abiding and committed to protecting their families and communities. Law enforcement is not capable of the instantaneity of being protected yourself, and the deterrent that this generates. I am close friends with a German, and she routinely expresses her concerns about personal safety. Women can't even carry pepper spray or tazers, and can only involve law enforcementafterthey have already been assaulted. That is really bad and I don't envy that whatsoever. Simply making them illegal and driving them into a black market does not have a good track record at all in mitigating violent crime. An armed population is not easily robbed of its freedom. Study history and carefully observe how the Bolshevik and Maoist revolutions took place, and hypothesize how plausible that would be against an armed population.
- Metrics of per capita health, education, and personal achievement; we do fare worse here, in general. Much of this criticism is warranted, but it's also on an individual basis, as the United States also is at the cutting edge of research and technology alongside Europe, and produces many excellent and brilliant people. Also, many of these failings ought to deem the individual culpable, not the system.

And I'll add my own...

Europe certainly has the richer cultural heritage, and the United States by and large is its dependent in this regard, however, in the contemporary world, our popular culture is certainly dominant. For whatever else that's worth, it does bespeak the influence we exude. So, we do not have the same cultural depth and heritage of Europe proper (and I think Europeans should be proud of this, as it applies to them) but our influence is felt and often emulated and admired more than is likely admitted. We have a lot of problems and it's foolish not to aim to address them, but we are literally one of the freest and most opportunity-laden countries in the history of the world. If people want to fall into crippling (non medically-inflicted) debt, become obese, achieve nothing of note and squander this, that's on them. But the chance to do or be whatever you want here is real and immensely desirable, and if it wasn't, so many people wouldn't try to move here every year.

The biggest thing we still have going for us as the original vision has been corrupted.

Gotta say that a lot of people from China and Asia generally have also grown very wealthy.

All of that merican GDP is in the hand of small percentage, merican plebs like you will never be part of that.

Btw the european GDP is almost the same as the USA so even in that metric you aren't dominating.
IMO you take the argument too far, but this is often overlooked- that there is a wider economic divide in the US. Good for the rich and not so good for the rest.

Portugal looks pretty good. Nice weather, good farmland, beaches, decent cities, English is widely spoken, ranked higher than the US by most measures- downside being that Portuguese is tough to learn and their bureaucracy is said to be a real PITA.

Healthcare is the most f*cked aspect for the US IMO. Last I looked the cheapest health insurance plan for me on the health insurance marketplace was $600 a month/$5000 deductible + co-pays. From what I've found private health insurance in the EU would be more like 150 euros a month w/15 euro co-pay for regular medical visits and 40 euro co-pay for urgent/emergency visits...that's $160 a month + $17/$45 for co-pays at the current exchange rate.

Yeah, that was a good post.

American here. Just wanted to point out how varied the different locations are in the US. I live in rural area. Here's a sunrise photo I took a few weeks ago to give you an idea.

One thing I really appreciate about the US is the options - city vs rural, mountains vs ocean, etc. We really are blessed in that respect. There are still a lot of communities with genuine hard working and kind people. There is also plenty of opportunity for people to be successful, if they are willing to work. There is plenty I would change, if I could but I'm pretty satisfied with the life I have. At the same time, I'm glad you non-US guys are happy, too.

We do some things well, like our sick national parks but not so much for quality of life of everyday Americans.

We’ve let partisan politics between the DNC and RNC take away our voices on the national level.

No Fkn privacy rights or right to be forgotten.

Our gun laws could be more lax, but the biggest Fuark is that we get chit value for our money. BRB tons of spending for healthcare for no results, while simultaneously propping up the rest of the world by footing the bill. Social safety nets are chit, I’d much rather just get that money in my check instead of giving it to a government running chit programs.

Bottom line, we could do so much better and really mogg but we don’t.

When people talk about it sucks here because there isn't free healthcare, it just makes me roll my eyes because for one thing, it's not that expensive, at least just covering yourself if you're employed, and adding people on isn't that bad, does suck if you have to provide yourself, but you still have options. I prefer lower taxes and getting $120 deducted out of my paycheck ever 2 weeks. Also, if you are constantly going to the doctor, something is wrong, and fact is the doctors can't really fix you. Treat symptoms yes.

As far as employment if you are a motivated person it's a lot better here. As far as wage slaves, factory floor working, run of the mill go through the motions and do as little physically and mentally as possible, yeah you're going to get stuck in a dead end loop. I have a lot of mixed feelings but I have a career path and I'm glad I'm not blocked out of dumbarses who have "seniority" just because they have been here a long time or they are older. Also may start my own business and that can happen here more easily. I personally don't care what other people are making, or doing. Really blows my mind how people are just mad that Jeff Bezos is making more money per day than they are in a lifetime to the point they would limit their own future just to put the brakes on his. What he makes doesn't concern me.

Wanna talk about art?

The best music bands and artists of all time were/are British

The best actors and directors were/are British

The best TV shows - that you fail to copy - were made by the British

Your musical talent shows? Made by a British guy

Cooking shows? British guy

Hell, you keep importing the lowest of the low from the UK like James Corden, John Oliver, Russell Brand and Piers Morgan and keep gagging on their balls because they are still above whatever you managed to cultivate over there. Meanwhile the best you can come up with is my 600000lb life, Jersey Shore and hunting fellow paedos in your neighbourhood. Ok and Ru Paul's drag race, you can have that one.
