Bro, I hate masks and passports and think our government is stupid. I'm very happy the head doc for the province finally came out today and said we have to learn to live with COVID like a dozen other countries already have.

What drives me crazy is when something like this "protest" happens and people think it's going to make an iota of difference. Especially since if they are against truckers getting vaccinated it's a provincial issue, which means they should be protesting in their province capitals - and if they are protesting the border controls then they need to get the US on board as well because they have the same rule. Going to Parliament Hill on a weekend - when every person there is working from home and even the PM is hiding in his closet - is the biggest waste of time and money I've ever seen.

If they really want to make a difference, what they should do is just stop driving. Lock down the whole system and stop delivering stuff. That would make a change really fast, not marching to a hill for social media likes.

they aren't protesting "against truckers getting vaccinated", or border controls. not sure how many times that's been clearly pointed out. they are protesting covid-19/vaccine MANDATES period. it's not purely a provincial issue either. clearly if they are driving to parliament, they are not delivering stuff. so why not both? you actually think they are going to parliament to hold trudeau hostage "1/6 insurrection" style lol? or force him to come out and speak as if they expected them to be there? and trudeau somehow pulled some 4d gotcha chess move by announcing his 5 day isolation?

I am an Ottawa brah. I will update from ground-zero as the weekend goes on.

Today:
-lot of pedestrians and crowds at gates of Parliament Hill, holding freedom/Trump/**** Trudeau/anti-vax/anti-mask signs, impressive amount tbh but today was unusually warm
-vehicle situation was not as impressive. A handful of transport and pickup trucks with flags kept driving by Wellington and honking/cheering. I’m excited to see how things turn out when the full convoy reaches, but it might be overhyped idk
-parliament security/RCMP were everywhere and I don’t think anyone would get far if they tried anything dumb

I'm all for the protest but I'm also a cynic and know it's going to amount to a big old nothing burger. The government doesn't care an iota about the regular people, they care about votes and Trudeau somehow already got voted back in.

Yesterday the chief medical officer of health already said we need to learn to live with COVID. That's no coincidence because a dozen other countries are already saying the same thing, and our government follows others blindly, about a month behind. I guarantee that they will announce mask mandates, etc being lifted by end of February. But it will have zero to do with a bunch of truckers gathering on a hill (even though some of them will take credit for fighting against tyranny).
