Realistically, I will have to gift each of my children a house
Pretty much becoming like Moscow now - the only people of my generation or younger who have a hope of home ownership is through inheriting (or moving overseas)
There is no way you could reasonably expect a kid to afford even a starter home at todays prices and things will continue to get worse
Don’t want my kids to be forced into servitude to a bank or worse to be a rentcel coper
Didn’t want to be one of those parents but seems like there’s no alternative

Maybe if people stopped popping kids out land wouldn’t be at such a premium.
You can’t produce more of it. In b4 there’s still plenty of land. Not really…. Not close enough to where most of civilization resides anyway and that’s the problem

It's not looking good for younger people wanting to own a home.
And it straight up doesn't make sense.
Some areas may have more people migrating in, but prices seem to be up everywhere.
Yes, inflation, reduced purchasing power, but wages haven't gone up that much.
Plus birthrates are supposed to be trending downward so shouldn't there eventually be enough homes available to meet demand?
The only big fat fly I see is rental housing [aka: non-owner occupied housing].
So your kids [and everyone else's kids] could probably afford housing IF we make ownership of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. homes too expensive for most people to bother with- or just straight cap the percentage of profit over expenses for rentals.

I'm not one to expect kids any time soon, nor do I even know that I'd want to be a father in my life time at all tbh.
That said, you don't need to provide houses to your kids... srs. You only need to provide for 0-18 + higher education, which essentially just means 0-22/24ish. Hopefully any scholarships, grants, etc. can help them pursue their needed education with no student loans and no debt by the time they begin their careers. Beyond that, you need to simultaneously have enough to support yourself in your elder years, so that you don't need to rely on your kids as care takers in your life.
^ That's how I look at it. And I think it universally applies to any other country/nation/civilization. Regardless of property ownership or the costs of housing.

So you’ve got an extra half million entering the housing market today than you did 30 years ago. That’s a lot. At some point there’s a squeeze that happens. It has to happen. The US didn’t exactly grow its land 20% in the last 30 years. A maybe a few more cities are more prominent than 30 years ago in attempts to absorb the population growth but probably not to the extent of the increase.

It’s not all population growth of course. There are other factors. Like some have said people buying up stuff and forcing people to rent to make a buck is also part of it.

Back in the days the purpose of having children was to have people to take care of you when you get old and decrepit, which was about 45 years old. Now parents are funding their kid’s lives into their 30s and 40s.

$100kpa is considered to be a reasonable salary.
“Get good grades, get a good degree and get a good job” is not going to cut it.
Teaching kids the value of money and hard work is great and all but that doesn’t mean they need to be sold into slavery to afford a decent home for themselves.
