The best free kick ever taken in soccer.

Roberto Carlos, V France, in 1997:

The commentator says you won't see one as good as that for many, many a year. 100% spot on.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

Because the wall has failed-the goalie covers a certain area & at the speed the ball is traveling cannot do anything if it is hit well enough at a corner of the goal.

In this case, Carlos put so much curl on the ball it was well wide of the goal, and looked to fool Barthez.
Back off, Warchild.

Wouldn’t have come down to the 90th minute if we hadn’t picked beckham.. we were terrible in that game due to his selfishness

I remember lots of salt after that one, many people saying it was an accident and he didn’t intend it etc.

I don’t know nothin about soccer, but I find that hard to believe that he didn’t intend it…

That's an iconic one. But there are or there were great free kick takers out there, honestly much better than Roberto Carlos. But that one is great, no doubt, and is one the most remembered.

Juninho Pernambucano, Del Piero, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Beckham, Marcos Assunção, Recoba, Pirlo... search them and you'll find amazing FKs.

My freshman year I got to sit on the bench for our state championship team.

Championship game we were in double overtime with like 20sec left and a free kick like 10yds outside the box. Our captain had a flawless kick that went right over the corner of their wall and 7’nd right into the goal. Literal perfect textbook goal.

After the game he basically admitted he was frustrated and just tried to kick it into someone’s face because he knew we were going to lose a shoot out.
