Standing military press or seated military press.
Good morning. Today I’m doing shoulders which has me wondering which type of military press do guys and gals do. I switched from seated military press to standing military since my gym is currently replacing equipment. I know it’s great to switch it up every now and then especially for folks with back problems. I’m just curious to hear other opinions. Thanks.

I've gone through long periods of both. I did standing for years, but I'm back to seated, mostly with a barbell.
I get a lot of shoulder joint pain when I do them standing, but with a supported upper back, I can press as heavy as I want and no shoulder pain.

Also - Seated, but not at 90 degrees. Move it back slightly, just one place, so the bar isn't hitting you in the face when you press in a straight line.

I can’t even do military press for shoulders or really shoulders at all… that extends to chest unless I have pks for the pain the starts ruminating in my neck and shoulder areas… first I was being a dumb ass when I was newer to lifting at Pennsylvania State University and? Was doing 95lb dumbbell Arnold presses? And ugh totally twerked my shoulder and dropped the dumbbell on my head and pinched a nerve in my shoulder. Wish I would have never been trying to go that heavy it’s just I’m naturally pretty strong and yeah fuvked up. Then when I was with my boy zcarr I totally fractured my skull and did upper vertebrae damage when I got life flighted to upmc over my fractured skull and neck from impacting a tree head on. So only real light shoulders are on the table for me at all but I can do bench pretty fine still if I have pks… just the pressure build up starts to hurt those vertebrae in my neck and **** I damaged from my fractured skull.

Oversimplified but from my experience and IMO:
Standing BB OHP for maximizing strength
Seated DB OHP for maximizing building the shoulder muscles
Standing BB OHP for maximizing strength
Seated DB OHP for maximizing building the shoulder muscles

I like standing in a rack if reps to failure are my goal
It allows me to truly fail a set without needing a spotter and also allows me to throw in a few push press reps at the end to go beyond failure if I want
I like seated for form and dumbbell work, and as Drew displayed above, it is much better to take an adjustable bench 1 spot down from 90 otherwise you are pressing around your face instead of straight up/down

Who the fucj? That’s repeated yes France said they’d build a gigantic dhali llama statue lol winning
But then there was some complication over LockheedMartin443 telling me no as ties to that max connor thing and yes as my phone just eluded jew bear? They said it was the police but you know that’s a problem still both from a damn the way this looks standpoint and legally as LockheedMartin443 didn’t elude to the particulars about it they’re just like?
No max connor that’s bad and of course top off that’s a liability ti everyone but beyond that they’d been eluding to more and idk what at all
Let me down as you know how much time I spent In a synagogue growing up just to stare at the back of your head lisa G? You were like a childhood obsession to me only reason I even went so much to the Jewish temple back in the day was all for you
And when yo I was this is all going down? Perfect I’ll marry that French jew bear and we will go rep France and she’ll ugh? Get me that dhali llama statue France for some reason told me they’d build lol
Still can’t believe that
And yo it’s gone lol but idk yes your family or cousins can still be chosen to go educational path and rep France as French Jews as you’re 100% French aren’t you? Idk you speak it better than you speak English so idk at all jew bear
But yeah not like I’m going to attack you or your dad that doctor over it probably the fault lies in Israel which is why? I’m trying to Eli the jew bear get that gorgeous jew bear to take over Israel
Have you seen her she’s literally the hottest jew bear ever
Throw some ds on that bitch
I mean stamp/certify things like my life flight and fractured skull records you guys have mentioned above
Edit: still laughing over here the French president told me they’d build a dhali llama statue if I married you ohh my lord I find that hilarious ti me
Edit2: either way jew bear?
My opposition needs to know? It puts the lotion on its skin
It does what it’s told lol
Dying rest in piece zcarr bre
Just for the record I’m still going to be pressing the French president for that dhali llama statue anyways lol
Edut3: so ugh your family better select French cousins to go over and fill the position or at positions ok iPhone just one I’ll let the French president pick the other one or two
To provide France with its subsidies
Fent? Yeah if I have to die that’s what I’m going to have to do
Either way jew bear go over and select your family member to be chosen for French president macron still right? Idk where these confirms on my phone come from at all but I guess the French president has to pick the other two
One of the French Jews comes from your family though and I’ll pregnant you plus copious child support

I like standing up because it's more athletic and you're getting your core muscles involved too.

Lucas - this is my son doing the same exercise from a side angle. If you still think this is an incline bench for the chest, try it out srs.
If you're standing, you're leaning back this far anyway, just to give clearance for your chin/face. The barbell still scrapes my beard on the way up and down every time. How could that happen on an incline bench press?
Srs just try it. Lower to a spot near the top of your clavicle (if you have the ROM to do so), and press in a straight line toward the ceiling.

I like to do at least one of my pressing exercises without my back on a pad for shoulder health/safety, so I always do my Ohp standing. When I have a gym membership I tend to so a lot of dips and might throw out shoulder pressing entirely but I don't have dip bars at home so standing military it is.

I tried all the recommendations - hundreds of face pulls, pulldowns, rows, external rotators, dislocates... and the list goes on.
I still do plenty of pulldowns and rows, and I still do shoulder warmup prior to pressing (which includes some external rotators, etc. just to grease the joint a little). But my shoulders feel like I'm 20 years old again, and all I did was stop flat benching and stop doing overhead pressing while standing.
First I changed to seated overhead pressing, and that did help. But the biggest thing I did was to change flat bench to a low incline for all of my chest pressing. Like I said my shoulders feel better than ever.
I'm just offering you that perspective because you said that standing presses without a pad is an essential part of shoulder health, and in my case, I believe it was only detrimental.

Currently doing only Standing. But im only maxxing out around 135x8. I have an adjustable flat bench which makes it awkward to press as I cant get my head back far enough unless I incline the bench some.
In my current home gym setup I only have dumbells upto 50lbs. I want heavier but i'll get some eventually. Then maybe i'll do seated more often with DB's.
