Same. Would have been beyond happy with either, but as a man, having it be a boy makes it extra nice.

Dad bros,

Hope ya’ll are doing well.

I wanted to bring the topic of lifting and fitness as a father. I assume all of you are busy with work and fatherhood. Most of you are in your 30s. How have you all adjusted to fatherhood and your busy lives with responsibilities and still maintain the same level of fitness? Any pro tips? I work quite a bit (50-60hrs/week) and soon will have 3 kids under 2. I have kept it up so far but I have def sacrificed my sleep. Gym is like my sanctuary, so letting go is not an option. I want to hear what all you’re doing to prioritising your health and fitness, and yet be productive fathers.

As always, props to all of you for being good strong fathers, keep on crushing, world needs more good dads.

Garage gym.. I would NOT have been able to keep a consistent workout schedule without one.

Also, rise and grind crew checking in. 5 am alarm, walk the dogs kill a coffee and I'm banging by 5:20. Not ideal but I don't have to tell anyone in this thread that my family comes first which sometimes means fitting other things in where there's room.

Trying to get my garage gym set up sometime in the near future and I know it will be a game changer. My shoulder is fuked though, so we’ll see how much I can actually do with the gym lol.

I really need to get back to waking up super early. Right now I treat the night as my alone time. The toddler goes to bed around 7 and my wife will usually head to bed around 9 or 10, and then I get a couple hours to myself. It’s gonna be tough to break the habit and shift my me-time to the early morning.

I started lifting in my mid-30s and already had 4 kids. Morning has always worked the best for me. It's the only time that I can set aside and know that I won't have any conflicts. Home gym is nice, but before I set mine up I just always found a place that was close to my work and would go straight from gym to work (work had showers). I did that for several years before I got a setup at home, and it was ok. The biggest advantage I have seen with a home gym is on the occasions when I do miss a session during the week. It's much easier to get a little weekend work in at home vs. going to a gym. My wife and two older kids use it, too, so that is another bonus.

I can do it. I've done 30lbs in 3 months before, buuuuuuuuuuuut that was before marriage and kids. LOL Funny you say your shoulder is fuked. Both my shoulders are fuked and my right wrist has carpal tunnel sydrome. FML It doesn't bother me much when lifting though. My shoulders on the other hand...I can't do any lateral movements but I can do shoulder press. Weird.

Kid turned 1 last December.

He's starting to throw some pretty nasty tantrums. Screaming, swatting people away, throwing himself back. Between my wife and in-laws I am the only one that tries anything other than pampering him. I'll take him away from the situation and get him to engage in something else and he'll be fine.

Peoblem is the other 3 aforementioned people think that there is only one way to skin a cat. So while I can get him to nap in 10 minutes the other 3 will have him still up 2 hrs later controlling the room with his dramatic antics, trying to make him happy.

I literally desposit him in his crib with a bottle and shut the door. Out like a light.

Tell me brahs, do I need to relax and let them coddle him a little longer or is now the time to step in more and more?

Nap time isn't the only area of concern but I think it does a goos job illustrating the gist of the broader problem (?).
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

A little bit of coddling won't hurt him. It's the grandparents job to spoil their grandkids. If it's a permanent situation you might have behavior trouble down the line.

Sounds like you're doing your job well brah, and he knows you mean business. He also knows he can play the others how he wants to. Smart kid

10/10 Would recommend!

Husband had his vasectomy about 3y ago and it was a great decision. I was much more concerned about it than he was (see thread below) Zero pregnancy worry + our youngest finally of school age = newlywed level sex life. As for the vasectomy itself, even after taking a ****** he was anxious at the moment of truth but he breathed deep and focused on the ceiling. Afterwards he admitted it was mental not physically painful. He had some discomfort the following day, but by day four he was ready to try out his modified equipment. Follow your aftercare and plan to take it easy for a day or two following the procedure, use your frozen peas/ice pack and pain medication, and ABOVE ALL ELSE use some form of BC until you receive the results of your semen sample test. There was active sperm in my husband’s first two samples and we didn’t get the all clear until his third ‘deposit’ about two months post-snip.

I definitely second this for people with young kids if it’s possible. Working out at home made it much easier for me to just get it in as needed without having to plan gym trips. I also think it sets a good example for the kids and can get them interested in it. One negative is that sometimes your workout can be interrupted and when you’re amped up it’s annoying, but you just have to realize that there will be plenty more workouts. I guess it could be different for others depending on home layout, schedule, proximity to gym, etc. but it worked great for me. Now that the kids are a lot more self-sufficient and aren’t as adamant about spending time with me(which is fine and just part of getting older) I’m back in the gym, but with younger kids it worked much better for me to lift at the house. And to touch on the spending time together thing again, I think it’s more important to make the time valuable and memorable at home instead of just making sure you’re there as much as possible. Being in the house doesn’t mean much if you’re checked out. On the other hand, if you make sure that at least once/week or month you’re doing things they’ll remember fondly for life it will serve them better.

Yeah, my wife had to come off of birth control due to genetic predisposition to blood clots so I decided to get the snip to avoid accidents. Figured it wouldn’t be fair to the kids we already have or the kid I would be bringing into the world if we had an accident just so I could bust. Wasn’t bad at all for me. 15 minute procedure followed by three days of taking lortabs and sitting on a bag of frozen peas/ice. Takes about a week or two before you can hit the gym and walk move around without thinking about it, but after the first 3-4 days the discomfort is pretty much gone. And then you turn into a creme pie factory and it is 100% worth it. It’s been so long it’s hard to even imagine always finishing sex by pulling out at the best part and finishing yourself off. So much better to shoot ropes all up in the guts.

Daughter is 6 months old. Tried food for the first time today. Went really well! Been in a super good mood the last two days. Much more talkative then we're use to.

Didn't drop her even once.

I feel so tired boyos. My wife had surgery this past Tuesday to remove her uterus because they detected cancer. No biggie, it's contained and we don't want more kids. Pull that sucker and get it over it. Surgery comes, had some complications but nothing too wild. 2 days later she comes home. Her recovery is very different than any other surgery she's had. We think it's just air that still needs to get out of her lower abdomen area. Every hour is nothing but pain. Pain meds aren't helping much. after 48 hours of hell, I took her back to the ER.

Turns out the ureter (the line that connects the kidney to her bladder) is damaged. The phukkin' doc phukked up. We knew her pain wasn't normal. So, now they need to put in a tube to her kidney to drain it and try to fix the damaged line. I'm exhausted and so phukkin' upset. When all this is said and done, we plan on suing the phukk out of the doctor and the hospital.

Sorry brahs, I just need to vent. I feel like an azzhole because I keep thinking about the massive medical bill too when my full attention should be focused on my wife's health. We have insurance, but you know how these things go.

Man what a roller coaster, I'm not surprised you are tired!

Don't feel bad about thinking about the bill, it's normal for the mind to go over every corner in your brain when processing something like this. It doesn't make you a bad person. It's our role as men to think about EVERYTHING, it's not easy but you are doing the best you can in a fukkd up situation.

Look after your wife and kids, you carry a heavy burden and they appreciate you. I wish you and yours all the best.

Stay strong bro, Kia kaha

Kind of know those feels. My oldest daughter starting Kindergarten this August. Will be nice saving some money from daycare, but the time surely does fly by. She's excited of course though to ride the bus.

Congrats, sounds like things are going well and you've done a god job. I think by 16 you've mostly taught them all you're going to. After that you're mostly an advisor and it's all about them executing on what they've been taught. 16-25 is still a really pivotal time period and puts them on the path they'll be on for the rest of their lives.

Y'all tell me how my 8 month old is already looking like a full ass kid? I love seeing him grow and learn, but damn it's happening so much quicker than I could have imagined. Seems like just a few weeks ago he was looking like a little tree frog curled up on my chest...

Anyways, Daddy sold his c6 Vette and picked up a more family friendly play car a couple weeks ago, 2014 Camaro with a few go fast goodies. This was little man's first ride -

Welp, got a call from my wife in tears after her third trimester ultrasound today. They found some calcification in the baby's heart which apparently is not actually a big deal--but the doctor told my wife that it could be a sign of down syndrome. I was able to calm her down and focus on the fact thatnothingelse indicates a possibility of the baby having downs, and they would have seen something else by now. Apparently 97% of babies with downs have this thing on their heart and that's what the doc emphasized to my wife--but plenty of babieswithoutdowns get it too. Head shape and everything else looks totally normal so I'm not really worried, but it was still scary to hear. They took a blood sample today and we should get the test results back in a week or two to definitively rule down syndrome out.
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave
